PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND READ MY REVIEW, AND THANK YOU IF YOU DO. Sarge: "Garin, you're this planet's greatest military tactician. Is your strategy good enough to overcome these odds?...Would you launch the storm?" Garin: "We have long faced terrors of injustice across our young nation. The greed of tyranny, the steady rise of meaningless casualties... The very air we once breathed as free men has thickened to a vile smog, choking out futures. Over these tragic years, our loyalties have been shaken under faltering regimes. Loved ones perish beneath a blind veil of honor, a facade of glorified sacrifice. We've grown weaker day by day as more innocent lives fall prey to this injustice. Such misdeeds would fell the most determined of men to dust. But at this very moment we stand strong, facing the abyss of hatred and destruction. Our courage will not falter. Our honor will not waver. You ask of the coming storm, of our assault on the world's greatest enemy. My answer: Let it rain justice!" -General Garin, Leader of the Blaze Army. Battle of the "War for Existence" August 17, 2023. Game came out 6 years ago. One minor bug 4 days ago I posted, and the dev responded, and fixed it. I assure you this is rare for an RPGMaker, that a dev took the time, 6 years later, to address something as minor as fixing the cutscene with the script you read above. The dev does the world an injustice, and robs the world of his literary talent. He should be writing novels. I have played a dozen or more RPGMaker games. I consider myself an expert on what pays tribute to the classic JRPG's we love, and ones that are a cheap imitation sold on Steam. I don't want to oversell this gem, this straight up masterpiece, but I can't find any other words to use to describe it. My gameplay time is actually closer to 70 hours (had to play offline a day or so). The content is all here. The context is all here. It, and you might think I am exaggerating but I am not, it is better than most non RPGMakers I grew up playing, and the dialogue from FF, Chrono, BoF series, etc, alone doesn't come close. Class abilities are excellent. Economy is strict, even late game. Not grindy. It's like I'm actually afraid that you reading this might make you dismiss me as a fanboy or delusional through nostalgia goggles, but that is not it. I am VERY scrutinous about RPGMaker games, and this DID NOT feel like an RPGMaker game. I hope you consider picking this up, because .99 cents does this 70 hour masterpiece incredible injustice. @DEV-You should be writing novels, seriously.
basit yapıda bir rpgmaker, oyun açılınca alt+tab bile yapamıyorsnuz
I'm playing this right after I beat the entire Final Fantasy Pixel Remake Collection and I have to say I'm actually pretty impressed. It's easily one of the most fun indie JRPG's I've ever played and, despite the humble RPG Maker visuals and game mechanics, it tells a pretty detailed and compelling story which addresses some surprisingly complex and mature themes, not shying away from heavy stuff, while staying true to the genre's more lighthearted conventions. The vibe reminded me of classic games I've loved, such as the aforementioned old school FF games, but also of stuff like Lunar Silver Star Story and even some of the better modern indie retro games like Shadows of Adam. The level of detail in the story and the character interactions quickly brought to mind the first Trails game, Trails in the Sky, since Xero and Enda are reminiscent of Estelle and Joshua Bright as much as they're reminiscent of Alex and Luna from Lunar Silver Star Story, while still remaining their own persons. The fact that this game is currently on sale for less than a buck boggles my mind, as does the fact that it costs just a couple of bucks at full price. If you like JRPG's but you look down on indies and/or RPG Maker games, give this one a try and keep an open mind. If you still hate it because you are dead inside, you'd only be down two bucks at worst. My only nitpicks, and I'm reaching here for something to criticize, are that a minority of the character portraits (like Sandra, Slash's wife, and especially Throg) kind of clash with the rest because they seem to be made in a slightly but noticeably different style; and I would've liked to be able to quicksave at any point, which is a common modern QoL feature. Having said that, the lack of that option is not really a problem since the game does allow you to save at inns, anywhere in the over-world, and also at checkpoints in dungeons, one of which is always located right before the boss. Other than that, the game does a good job of implementing familiar and interesting game mechanics, such as purchasing new skills and spells, crafting gear and items, upgrading equipment, managing a party of several characters that come and go while the core duo remain available for most of the game, and so on. I'm sure I've played a fair amount of recent big name JRPG's that are nowhere near as good as this hidden gem I only found by random happenstance through word of mouth.
Best dollar to gameplay ratio. I paid less than $1 and played more than 100 hours! If you liked grinding and leveling up Materia in Final Fantasy 7, then you will like this game. Also if you are like me and want all your main party members (there are 9) to have learned all their abilities, to own all the best weapons/armors, and for each to have every maxed out Materia then your gameplay will be just as high as mine.
The RPGMaker graphics turn me off, I hate the "click on random furniture to see what's there" mechanics, and a few tunes in the soundtrack aren't that great... ...but otherwise I am really amazed what these people were able to do with RPGMaker. They rip-off many of the Final Fantasy mechanics (e.g. materia, ships, etc.), some of the characters (the shirtless dude reminds me a lot of Sabin from FF6) and many plot beats (mainly from FF7), but somehow they managed to remix everything so well that this game has its own personality. And it is an epic story and AWESOME storytelling, clearly a labor of love, they spared no RPGMaker-efforts to tell it the best way they could. A few long cutscenes in the 2nd half are incredible, including an epic battle (again, despite the RPGMaker graphics) and a fantastic epilogue. So this is probably the best $1 game I ever played. Since I spent about 75 hours on it, it is certainly the largest time/$ ratio I have ever seen. Score: 85/100.
Another boring RPGMaker garbage.
All the playtime you see that I have has been trying to fix this game's garbage "full controller support", and now the game also crashes. Pro-tip to dev: just don't even activate any form of controller support next time so we can just JoyToKey it. I'm using a 360 controller which has worked flawlessly with my dozens of other RPGMaker games in my library both before and after wasting my time with this game so clearly the problem is not on my end. I might reinstall this game in a couple years to see if it's been fixed.
I have played dozens of rpgmaker games and romhacks, and this is by far the best indie rpg that I've ever played, and honestly better than most "professional" turn-based rpgs that I can think of in recent years. The game summary says 30 hours, but I will easily sink 40+ hours into this game (if you're like me and don't like bothering with short rpgs). Pros - Story: Excellent/well-written and engaging story and funny dialogue - Combat: Decent level of challenge with the combat system on Hard - Leveling: Basic skill/magic system but gives you some freedom and the room for some customization via an FF7-esque materia system - Items/equipment: Straightforward but fun compounding system - Optional stuff: Lots of extras, including a type of monster collecting system (turning monsters into crystals for money, compounding, item trades, etc.) optional bosses/dungeons, an arena system, and optional story stuff - Graphics: I actually prefer the old school rpgmaker look to the modern versions because I think it looks better. Also, there are character portraits during dialogue Cons - Most of the music doesn't really do anything for me, and most of the battle themes sound like elevator music. Small price to pay though
Trotz des Preises ein echt gelungenes Spiel. Für 100% ungefähr 40 Stunden.
