Forest Ranger Simulator, developed by FreeMind S.A. and HOT CODE COMPANY and published by FreeMind S.A., is a nature-based simulation game that aims to put players in the boots of a dedicated forest ranger tasked with preserving the natural balance of the wild. It’s a concept that immediately appeals to a niche but growing audience of players looking for something slower-paced and meditative—a welcome contrast to the action-heavy, fast-paced titles that dominate the gaming landscape. At its core, the game offers players the opportunity to explore vast forested environments, engage in conservation tasks, respond to ecological threats, and gradually restore harmony to areas damaged by human interference or natural events. Visually, the game does a fairly respectable job of creating a peaceful, semi-realistic wilderness. The environments are often atmospheric and pleasant to explore, especially during early morning or dusk in-game, when the lighting effects cast long shadows through the trees and wildlife slowly emerges. The sound design, while not revolutionary, contributes effectively to the immersion—birds chirp in the distance, wind rustles through trees, and the occasional animal call adds life to the surroundings. When the game allows itself to breathe and focus on quiet observation, it nails a kind of serenity that is hard to find elsewhere. That said, the graphical fidelity can be inconsistent, with some textures and animations falling short of modern standards, particularly in areas like object interaction and animal AI, which can feel underdeveloped. The gameplay loop is built around a mix of exploration, maintenance, crafting, and reactive problem-solving. Players are given a variety of tasks, from picking up trash and repairing infrastructure like benches and bridges, to building animal feeders, investigating poacher traps, and responding to emergencies like forest fires. There’s also a mild crafting system, where you collect resources and use them to build or fix objects scattered throughout the forest. This loop is initially satisfying and even rewarding as you slowly see the forest become healthier through your efforts. However, the novelty wears thin the longer you play. While there are a range of mechanics, many of them feel somewhat shallow or clunky in execution. Object handling can be frustratingly imprecise, vehicle controls are often unresponsive, and the map system lacks the fluidity needed for efficient navigation. One of the game's touted features is its dual gameplay mode: a freeform sandbox where players can explore and act at their own pace, and a more guided, quest-driven experience that provides structure. The latter is useful for players who prefer having clear goals, but both modes suffer from an absence of depth in their underlying systems. For example, environmental hazards and emergencies like wildfires are present but rarely dynamic enough to pose a real challenge or evolve unpredictably. Similarly, animal behavior tends to be more scripted than reactive, which breaks immersion over time. There is also a significant lack of meaningful progression; while tasks are plentiful, they don’t always feel connected to a larger narrative or ecological impact, which could have made the player’s actions feel more consequential. Technically, Forest Ranger Simulator is still rough around the edges. Despite leaving Early Access, the game exhibits bugs and performance issues that detract from the overall experience. Controls feel unintuitive at times, especially when handling tools or interacting with the environment. User interface elements could use streamlining—menus can be cluttered, and tooltips sometimes fail to provide sufficient guidance. Players new to the genre or unfamiliar with the simulator format may find the lack of onboarding frustrating, particularly in the game’s early hours. Vehicles, which are meant to make traversal easier, are often locked behind expensive in-game costs, forcing players to trek long distances on foot until much later in the game. Community feedback has been mixed, with some praising the relaxing tone and eco-conscious themes, while others express disappointment in the game's lack of polish and mechanical depth. Reviews on Steam and other platforms reflect this divide, with many users acknowledging the potential of the game but lamenting that its execution doesn’t fully capitalize on its strong premise. While the developers clearly have a vision for a tranquil, environmentally-themed simulator, it seems that more time in development or deeper investment in key systems could have elevated the experience significantly. Ultimately, Forest Ranger Simulator is an ambitious project that succeeds more in concept than execution. It offers a refreshing alternative to high-stress or combat-heavy games, providing a world where conservation and caretaking are the focus. However, its potential is hindered by underdeveloped mechanics, technical limitations, and a lack of depth that might leave players wanting more substance. For fans of slow-paced simulators, nature walks, or games like Firewatch, it may still provide a few hours of calm enjoyment. But for those looking for a deeply interactive or highly polished experience, it’s advisable to approach with tempered expectations—or at least try the free demo before committing to a full purchase. Rating: 4/10
DO NOT GET THIS GAME! It has game breaking bugs and the devs have abandoned it.
The only game in its class ...bloody shame that it has been left to die. So was looking for a game to stream alongside my fundraiser to do with forest management, this game came up, first I played the demo...a bit janky in places but not a bad "seriously chilled" game, the time ran out of the limited demo so i purchased the game .(It helps if you read your park ranger notepad) my first quest, I was picking up rubbish those pesky campers left after the spring break, sorting it in its various bin type (use detective mode to look at the colour bins the rubbish needs to go) collecting funds from each bin deposit. As day turned to night i found myself continuously fainting with no idea what to do, I wake up from my passing out to find myself back in my broken down Ranger Hut (you need to rebuild it as a quest) no, bed, no food no idea on what to do. I manage to place a bee hive, feed the birds on their feeders (bonus money in the form or a grant) I put out a fire, all very exiting stuff, then i noticed the game slowing down .... glitching before going blank, before i knew it steam had shut down the game was apparently still running and noi way to stop it, restart needed. I know this has a rating of mostly negative and I can completely understand why in its current state .... but this game could of been a little gem ...I mean I purchased the full game lol Graphics are not bad and in some places positively beautiful Sound has been soo much improved over the demo, everything seems a lot more natural. Game play, me being me.. I could quite easily sink a few hours in to this game as my OCD has me picking up and sorting rubbish off of the park floor for hours .... very satisfying. This could of been great, so unique and a foundation to build on ...but as i can see from the reviews it has been left to die. To the devs ...if you ever do bring this back to life, fixing the crash and the annoying little bugs I would have no problem repurchasing it ... but the first time in god knows how many years of being a steam user i am going to request for a refund just because of the seriously bad crash it invokes. Bloody shame :(
WOW, this game is TRULY TERRIBLE! Chopping FPS, no motivation, bad controls, forget about a game premise cause i have issues just understanding how to get things. Maybe I need to READ/Watch a few tutorials or just say refund!
Вообще не стартануло - было 6 попыток, чтобы как раз отметить в отзыве. На всё ушло 5 минут. Стартовый экран и вылет.
This game is so broken its not even funny. Steam shouldn't even allow a game like this to be sold its so bad.
All achievements can be unlocked on previous version. Will have to do the requirements MULTIPLE times before the game decides to unlock some of them.
download_depot 1185780 1185781 2213451349297693955 This should not be out of early access let alone for sale on steam. Slow down for seemingly no reason. Options are severely limited. Trash/mushroom spawns in or under the terrain. Trash/mushroom pickup is too pixel perfect, and when some items are so very small they're maybe 2 pixels, and depending on camera angle and how far/close you are to it, the trash vision outline will visually disappear. Crosshair needs options like size or color, too hard to see. It's all just a hassle. One of the crafting stations, the one to craft benches/tables, does not show what is needed to make stuff. You have to guess by dragging stuff like logs to the craft area. [THIS IS FIXED BY REVERTING THE GAME TO AN OLDER VERSION] There's e-mails you can get in game with the subject Tips and Tricks, one of them stating that if you're tired of fences making it difficult to traverse areas, stack stuff up beside one so you can get over them. Devs, why didn't you just add a vault over option? Ram maxed all of a sudden and the game hanged, messed up Windows enough that I had to restart my pc. Went to load game, everything was gone. Had to start over. Too late to refund. Seemed like game maxes ram after four hours, but I think it's the transition to night that causes the issue. [THIS IS FIXED BY REVERTING THE GAME TO AN OLDER VERSION] I have never before been this baffled by a game. I felt as if I was losing my mind, comparing what I was playing to screenshots and glancing over what the achievements required. Things were just... missing. No cooking, no buying of zones, no animals like in the steam screenshots. With some help from my brother, I rolled back to an older version and wow was I surprised. There's animals! Deer and what look like baby boar! I think the game mentioned a bear, but I haven't seen one. There's also building options in other parts of the forest, only available if you buy the land. Cooking is also available. The PC in game is completely different! The game doesn't max my ram for no reason, I can play longer than 4 hours and past the transition to night. I have no idea what these devs did with that Oct 2025 update, but it seems to have reverted the entire game in to a inferior, gutted version no better than a demo or beta. I've been burned too many times by these sim games. I'm convinced at this point if you see a dev/pub of a simulator that ends in S.A. just don't bother.
Grafik ist ja OK aber der Rest des Spiels kannsrte komlplett vergessen - die Hilfe systeme sind nicht übersetzt du hast keine Map um dich zu recht zu finden und der Sinn erschliest sich mir leide auch nicht ganz
this sucks big time
