Floralgraphic Memory is whimsical, magical visual novel of a teenager named Rose who decides to skip school and whisk themselves away to a magical world.
The Story, Features & Artwork
What a gorgeous, vibrant kinetic visual novel. A story about a teenager named Rose, who after deciding to skip school for the day, spends his day daydreaming about another world full of wonder, whimsy and magic. This visual novel is the fifth installment by Chase Fox, and admittedly my first experience with their creations. The scene jumper (press ESC at any time to bring up a pause menu that will let you jump to any scene in the story) means you never need to worry about saving files. And if you right-click at any point in the game it shows you the “making of process” of the art scene you're viewing. It is always a joy, when you are able to view the thought process of an artist as they create. This element to the visual novel is really a great addition. Now this part is based on my impressions & personal opinions. Looking through Chase’s concept art I get the impression they see life more in terms of colors than details. The line art is rough and truthfully won’t mean much to the on-looker but you can really see their concept starting to take shape when they plan with colors. The line art is just more or less for general composition. As for myself I tend to put more effort into the concept phase using line art and sketches and color is a secondary thought for me. So seeing others' thought processes and the way they go about creating is inspiring. The art is so vibrant, colorful and magical. Hand-crafted, with a mix of digital and watercolor art. Chase’s style is very painterly in a way that makes the images generate a feeling of movement. They are dynamic, whimsical and so full of life. Artwork in-game by Chase Fox https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240169322 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240169239 The scenes have interactive elements in them. So if you click the area's description will pop up with details about the object and its significance.
Overall Experience
This visual novel is such a treat. I am looking forward to going back and experiencing the other four installments of Chase’s works and any future projects they may release. Oh and Chase if you end up reading this review…Dragon Fruit ice cream sounds delicious! 💗
Please follow our curator page, Otome Lovers, if you'd like to see more reviews like this one! Another charming little visual novel (with particular emphasis on the visual), set in the magical and delightful world that springs from ChaseFox’s imagination. It’s likely that only a minority will appreciate this sort of game, which is so personal and artistic in nature. In any case, I’ll keep banging on about it so that people know these works exist. That said, if this is the first time you’ve come across one of these works, I’m not sure if this is the right one to start with, I’d recommend starting with Carrot or his new dating sim series: Truth Universally Acknowledged.
The newest game by ChaseFOX, Floralgraphic Memory is a delightful twist on the linear visual novel. Various scenes have interactable sections which supplement the narrative flow and contribute to the overall feel of this game being a picture book brought to life. This, combined with additional features such as the ability to look at the concept art during any frame of the story, and to skip to any scene, shows how the developer has honed the skills they've developed in previous games to make a wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what the developer creates next.
Every little game by ChaseFOX is a delight. Floralgraphic Memory feels like a living artbook, and its introspective story is something many of us... can relate (yeah pun intended). I have loved experiencing this iteration of their work, and I'm looking forward to the next, longer-than-ever visual novel in the series.
Beyond a colorful and gourgeous art, you can feel the feelings that people put on this short game. The story is open to interpretation, however, it strongly resonated with me. Really liked this game for what it is, and for what it makes possible to think it is. Thank you for such an experience.
This game was very short but is very precious to me. I discovered Chase's work through a webcomic, Floralosis, many years ago. While playing this game the visuals and themes reminded me of it. It wasn't till the end, spoilers?, where there are creator's notes that confirmed this was from the same idea. I am very thankful to have learned more about the concept and rediscover the themes that resonated with me.
Was Rose dreaming ? Sure thing i dreamed along
I knew as soon as I had wishlisted this, that I would really enjoy it. Yes it's short but it's absolutely beautiful :) The world in which floralgraphic memory is set is just so incredibly colorful and bright (with exception of scenes that are, given the story, darker). I also really loved switching between the art in between and barely recognising anything in the ballpoint-pen sketches. I had emotionally intense and invested 20 minutes, enough to make me tear up at the end. Can't wait to see more ^^
