Reviews
I grew up with pinball machines - the real ones but also Epic Pinball and Space Cadet, absolute legends in their time. And now I'm having a blast with FlipScapes. FlipScapes is a brilliant new pinball game that absolutely makes the most of its digital nature with highly interactive levels, dynamic objectives, characters and special abilities. It's top notch.
A review copy was provided by the developer.
🔶 FlipScapes is a pinball game set in colorful worlds, use your character ability for completing all Pachinko levels 🔶 Gameplay is really close to a classic flipper, but with an automatic moving bar for recover the ball, ability to dash on the left or right and a special ability according to your characters, 5 characters for 5 unique ability (multiball / Explosive ball / Time Reload …) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3342881333 4 difficulty levels, with 2 main different gameplays according to selected difficulty (one where you control the left and right flipper, and one where you control the central bar) Nice graphics, separate into 5 worlds with each have his own atmosphere (Jungle, Ice World, Food World, Desert …) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3342880881 Unfortunately, game only have 18 levels, for around 3 hours for main complexion. The game cost 18€, so around 1€ for each level, too high price for the current state in my opinion. Boss level can also be pretty annoying, really harder that common level, because of more long level, with way easier to fall, take me 5 tries to complete first boss, on easiest difficulty https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3342881154 Steam Achievements are also badly done, with no achievements for common progression (completing each world / play a game with all 5 different characters), but only really grindy achievements (Win 50 levels using only left flipper / Win 50 levels using only right flipper / Get 50 Ace (Perfect) Score) Overall, Flipscapes is a nice colorful pinball / pachinko game, but with too minor content for the current price asked, recommended on sale or after more content released for this one 💚💚💚 : - Nice graphics, with multiples atmospheres. - Classic but solid gameplay, each level has his own objectives. - Still new content recently (one new level added in Mid-September), a total of 50 levels in the full release are announced. ❌❌❌ : - But only 18 Levels on the current state - Boss can be really annoying ... - Clearly not for achievement hunter. (Win 50 levels using only left flipper / Win 50 levels using only right flipper / Get 50 Ace (Perfect) Score)

I'll write an early review since this game seems to be criminally ignored by the algorithm, and what I've seen thus far gives me a lot of confidence in the quality of the rest of the game. For context, I've spent many hundreds of hours playing pinball, and I search for and follow virtually every pinball-themed release on Steam. Usually I'm mildly to very disappointed in pinball-themed games that stray very far from the refined organism that has emerged from the nearly hundred-year evolutionary path of pinball engineering: a flexible but well defined category of devices (real or virtual) operating within well-justified and thus mostly standardized design conventions; an inter-generationally familiar and venerable pastime which can be every bit as rewarding and demanding at high levels as billiards, bowling, and other ball sports. Now, there are competently made pinballish PC games like Rollers of the Realm, Demon's/Xeno Tilt, etc, that, while I acknowledge their many virtues, have left me relatively cold compared to playing almost any ordinary physical or faithfully simulated pinball table. I'd just rather play pinball. This game is a welcome exception. Don't let the cartoonish (but beautiful) graphics turn you off. There is enough mechanical depth and interest here to make it well worthwhile. It's not a kid's game or pinball cosplay. The novel mechanics are well tested, balanced, and are fundamental design choices with interesting dynamics, not just kludges to make the game easier or different for its own sake. The physics are precise enough to reward careful, practiced play, and familiar enough not to punish acquired pinball habits. And if you crank up the difficulty, you are unlikely to get through the campaign completely unscathed, even if you are an experienced pinballer; the "one flipper" achievements effectively create a shadow hardcore mode if your Great Pinball Wizardry leaves you bored after conquering the leaderboard. Conversely, there are many ways to dial it back, and a coin-toss replay makes it very approachable for beginners, without dumbing it down too much. Difficulty multipliers let everyone occupy the same leaderboard like one happy family. It's not easy to make a game that will simultaneously challenge and delight veterans and novices of pinball, but this seems to hit the mark.
The goal of the game is to progress through stages by completing their objectives. There is also a points system, which you can increase with difficulty multipliers. However, the difficulty setting doesn’t change anything other than the number of balls you have available to beat a stage. The main gameplay is based on pinball mechanics with a dash of pachinko and brick-breaking. After you launch the ball in the desired direction, you need to keep it in the playing field by using the left and right flippers. This sounds simple enough, if not for one big twist: the hole between the flippers is much wider than in usual pinball games. The game offers two ways to deal with this. The first is the ability to nudge the ball left or right to prevent it from falling in. This ability needs to recharge after each use, which takes around a second or two, but that’s often enough to prevent such cheap “deaths.” The second option is a bar between the flippers that can be temporarily extended by collecting icons with the ball. However, you only have direct control over the bar if you choose not to use the nudge. If you go with the nudge mode, the bar moves left and right on its own. The nudge ability is also useful for hitting stage objectives. Stages aren’t large, and there are barely any fancy ramps or bouncy pads. Almost everything in a stage can be destroyed by hitting it with a ball. Many objects exist purely for extra points, such as letters, while others are part of objectives, like blocks. Objective-related objects are highlighted. Once an objective is completed, it’s often replaced with a new one, and a single stage can take several minutes to finish. The game takes you across four planets, each with five stages, as well as two smaller locations with two stages each. However, planets are locked, and you don’t really get to choose which one to play next. After beating the first planet, you receive a special currency to unlock the next one. Only after beating the second planet do you get enough currency to unlock a location of your choice. Stages within a planet are played in order, but losing isn’t overly punishing. First, balls reset for each stage, so you don’t have to beat all stages with a single limited supply. Second, after losing your last ball, you flip a coin; if it doesn’t land on a skull, you get a free ball. Lastly, even if you lose all balls, you can restart the stage as many times as you want until you beat it. You can also quit and come back later, or replay completed stages. Part of the fun comes from the five characters, each with two unique perks that can help you beat stages faster or more easily. You can only pick one character at the start, but the rest don’t require any special steps to unlock. Simply unlocking a new planet grants you a new character. Each character has one passive and one active skill. The active skill can only be triggered after collecting energy bolt icons during stages to refill your energy. These bolts respawn after a while, allowing you to use skills fairly often. For example, the first character’s active skill enables multiball, while the second can rewind time to save a ball. Passive skills are always active, but they aren’t particularly impactful. An additional mechanic is that characters gain experience when you beat a stage with them. Over time, they level up and slightly upgrade their active skill. For instance, leveling up the first character increases the duration of its multiball ability. In conclusion, you can get a lot of fun out of the game if you go into it knowing that this isn’t a pure pinball experience and that losing balls in quick succession is common. This level of “difficulty” is also reflected in some nearly impossible achievements, such as beating a stage using only the left or right flipper. Stages are already challenging with two flippers, let alone just one.
Really cute and solid pinball game! I love how the boards change over time when you play them, each feel like an adventure.
Adorably cute game with an interesting mix of flipper and Peggle mechanics. I hope the game gets way more attention and the devs continue being motivated!
it keeps on booting me back to the intro screen after showing the main menu for 1 second. please let me know when its fixed and i'll retry the game because it looks great <3
