Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/Gmzb3HNyz2Y I did enjoy my time in Flavortown. I liked the irreverent and oddball humor. If you liked the original Flavortown VR then you will probably enjoy this installment as well. It's meant to be an episodic nature series, however, it is a full self-contained episode. Whole thing should take about an hour. It's carried by the VOs and by the jokes. There are some mini-games as well and some shooting involved. However, those are the weak-points of the experience, much like the original Flavortown. The VR interactions are very simple. The grabbing mechanic in this game is pretty bad. You're supposed to point and highlight the object and then press grab to pick it up, but the whole process is cumbersome and prone to failure. I liked the art style. It's very simple, low-polygon count type aesthetic, but it looks surprisingly well in VR. The music also fits nicely in the meat world, much like the original. The game ran at a steady 72 fps on my RTX 3080 on the highest graphical settings (my Oculus Quest 2 is limited to 72 using the Oculus Link cable). Obviously, this crude sense of humor won't be for everyone. Also, the mini-games and shooting could be implemented much better. However, this experience is budget-priced and the story narrative and jokes do carry the experience, at least it did for me. I can't wait for the next episode and see what quality of life improvements are made. honestly it was a funny little experience that I did enjoy. But it is marketed with the promise of further chapters, that were never delivered. It's been 2 years and not so much as a single update. Devs have abandoned it and I cannot reccommend anyone purchasing it.
Game is good to play I know that bugs are going to be happen but they'll work on it for sure
Even with only chapter 1 being available at this time, well worth the money. Similar in tone to Accounting+ and just as funny. Couple of minor bugs such as items falling through tables and, with the Oculus Rift, having to point at things with your palm instead of finger to have items come to you, but easily overlooked as nothing was game breaking.
"Third Update" All control mapping is now working and is smooth and easy to use. Playing through for a second time was more enjoyable without fighting these. I know mappings may seem like a "small thing to be updated" but the speed the devs have done it and their updates was what stopped me from refunding and got me to play through twice. Keen for episode 2. "Original Review" This game does seem like it could be good, unfortunately running on a Vive it seems that the controls do no function and you're unable to proceed past the initial starting point. I'm hoping a fix will come soon.
This game seems really fun, but a warning to anyone with even mild motion sickness, this game hits it hard. The movement is the big issue. You use the touch pad to slide around the room which is very disorienting. If this game were to implement a movement system where you 'teleport' to your cursor, like every other game, it wouldnt be as big of an issue. For reference, the only games that hit my motion sickness are racing/driving games (space pirate trainer, other driving games), and for some odd reason Wolfenstein on the Xbox One....
I really dont know if id call this a "game", well it is a game, but more like you are in an episode of some weird and quite funny tv show. I got a bit frustated at first, as i wanted to start doing things right away, but i noticed the story/dialogue kept going, and i understood its a Story/Dialogue driven game, the puzzles and shooting parts are kinda secondary. The voices, dialogue and story carry the whole thing, not that the other stuff is bad, graphics are simple but they fit the aestetic of the game and keep performance great (with a 1080), audio is pretty good, some mechanics feel a bit clunky, like the way some mini games work, and the grabbing mechanic takes a bit getting used to, but nothing that bad. You basically wake up reincarnated as a cookie cop, a scene setting the game up happens, then go around triggering more scenes or playing scattered minigames that advance the story (you are solving a criminal food case of course). While i liked the humor id understand its not for everyone, still there where more than a few really good jokes that made me chuckle. I think for the price its a pretty good experience, a change of pace when it comes to usual VR games i play. Recommended for people that think would enjoy a funny game more inclined to (hearing) dialogue than action, with a cookies and food theme.
Janky. Kept ruining progress by objects flying off in bizarre directions. Also, couldn't get on with the dialogue or the sense of humour.
it is a good game but they did start on a new game so development for this game has slowed down quite alot but i hope they start picking up soon since theres a few more chapters left (only the first is available)
It's not bad at all for the price, some interesting game mechanics, but very buggy and most of the minigames are based entirely on random luck so you have to replay them like 4 times until you know which options to pick to win. and i think thats a little annoying but yeah its 6 bucks, grab it, its pretty entertaining regardless
