My only major complaint is that it's a bit too grindy to unlock the next levels so for that reason I'm going to have to not recommend the game. I only have two levels left but I've lost interest in having to repeat scenes to progress to the next one. Other than that, the game is really sweet and has beautiful music and artwork but the grind was a bit of a turn off for me personally.. I'm not sure if anyone else felt the same.
I was genuinely interested in the story, given its feminist and queer elements. But stop making me play your stupid mini games over and over again to unlock the next scene! It feels like a tactic to artificially extend the game time. I struggled through 2 hours before giving up. Despite these fancy elements, the script isn't particularly well-written as there's so little content. If not for the repetitive mini games padding the time, I suspect the story can't even sustain half an hour on its own. Not worth it unless you're a hardcore fan of hidden object games.
After the war, stability was the one thing I thought I could give my family"...
Incredibly grindy. You have to play the same scenes over and over again to unlock the next level. This would be good if the story was.. actually interesting.
Finding Hannah is a narrative-focused hidden object game focusing on Hannah as she navigates a mid-life crisis. It is a fun and unusual offering that certainly piques interest in terms of the narrative, with its relatable protagonist and fascinating but flawed side characters. While the gameplay does get a little repetitive in places, both the hidden object and item combo modes are fun and gratifying ways to progress the story adding a nice level of interaction and challenge. The aesthetics stand out with unique stylised visuals and a strong, varied soundtrack. Overall, this early-access version of the game got me intrigued and I will eagerly await updates and future content. I’d recommend Finding Hannah to anyone that enjoys casual narrative-focused experiences and hidden object games. I'm finding 2023's underappreciated gems! This one has entirely different vibes than Frank and Drake, but they are both really special and I love them. I mostly bought this game because I liked the art style so much, but also because you don't see women over 30 portrayed in games a lot, and because it was affordable. Got to say, I enjoyed the story and gameplay much more than expected, too. I thought it would be mostly a visual novel with some object-finding sprinkled in, but it's really more of a unique high quality Hidden Object game with a coherent and actually interesting story and a minigame I hadn't seen before to unlock new levels. The concept confused me a bit at first, but then I really liked it. There is an ignorable (but very useful) timer for the hidden object scenes, but from what I've gathered it doesn't start while you're taking in the scenery and getting a feel for what's where. Once you start, it seems to be an advantage to look for all three current objects before triggering the bonus timer. I usually hate timers, but in this game I found it quite fun to try to be as quick as possible. You can get a precision bonus too, which I found a cool reward for not just randomly clicking (which is what I resorted to in some other HOGs, but only did once in this game). You get up to 3 "hints" per scene, and I used them a bunch of times when the objects to be found were presented with only black silhouettes - I appreciate the attempt to mix things up (and also mostly appreciated some objects moving around), but those were sometimes annoyingly difficult to figure out. Oh, also! I only noticed halfway into the game that there's a zoom function, and it greys out the currently searchable objects that aren't in the zoomed-in area. The object-merging minigame was probably the thing that made the least sense for the story and it was a bit confusing at first, but I found it mind-numbing in a relaxing, almost meditative way XD I even continued for a bit after finishing what's there of the story so far. There was a little strategy involved in which scenes to repeat for more of the minigame resources, which was also a plus for me. The whole unlocking process felt a little grindy and unbalanced at times, but not so much that I got seriously bored. Coming back to older scenes was a treat for the eyes, and the music did its part to keep up the mood. The story dealt not only with Hannah's conflict between freedom and security, the other characters' musings on it and relationships between family members. It also had a surprising amount of insights on German history during and after the Second World War without feeling too obviously educational or dragging down the mood too much. A bit tropey perhaps when it comes to the Hippie period, but realistic enough from what I know. It was only at the rather abrupt end that I remembered this game is still in Early Access. The story didn't feel interrupted in the middle, I just missed some kind of outro. Honestly, it's a very good game already, but if it's going to get a little more balanced and even have its story continue then that's amazing and I'll gladly check out the updates. * * * If you like chill and story-driven games, check out my curator Peaceful Adventures and Stories.
