Finally, Half-Life 3
Please don't bash on R.T.P. or the one guy who made this game. My opinion can and will greatly differ than yours. Plus, it feels like they are on the younger side so they physically can't take constructive criticism. If I'm wrong about my feelings and the developer is an adult, then I will feel more comfortable giving harsher criticism. Now this game to me feels like it's in its concept stage. Even though the developer says its done and there will be no more updates. I do like the concept of a third person platformer made on the Source game engine. In fact, I think this is the only one that I know of that isn't a mod for Garry's Mod. I do like the cartoony art style. It's a nice break after me playing other games made on Source, which 90% of the time they use a 'realistic dark and gritty' art style. And those were the positives... Now I am aware the game is in Spanish. I only speak English. This is NOT a problem with the game. This is a me issue. What IS an issue is that the way the game 'translates' the audio is by giving characters speech bubbles with text written in English so non-Spanish players can play the game. Now TheBillinator3000, why is that a bad thing? That sounds like a good thing in fact. Well, the way the speech bubbles are presented is very inconsistent. VERY inconsistent. One time a character talks, the speech bubble is in the game world as a floating object. Another character talks, the speech bubbles are in the form of a screen overlay, just below the Heads Up Display (HUD). Another time a character talks, it's just plain text in the center of the screen. Another time a character talks, it's a series of 2D images. Sometimes there's no translation at all and just an image of a rabbit. Please just pick one translation method. I am even willing to accept no translation. I have played and completed non-English Source games/mods before. Also, please don't use Google to translate or whatever digital translation method you're using. If you're translating single words and very short (2-3 worded) sentences, it's fine. But any more than that, you will get mistakes and contradictions. For example: "Well I can't sleep anymore, I'm going to go to sleep". There was a recent announcement when this review was made saying 'Do you feel like you are missing things?', I would like to say so since there are some speech bubbles that don't have anything written on them. I thought the developer removed the update logs but as it turns out, they're just just no longer shown on the Steam page. They are in the discussions tab. I was worried they outright removed them because update logs show the game is getting improvements and it shows the developer growing as a game developer. Now I was told this game was designed to troll the player. Make them angry and stuff. This game doesn't feel like a troll game. Like I said it feels like the game isn't done. If that was the intent, the developer NEEDS to know the difference between mischievous and mean. Mischievous is 'ha-ha, don't look up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ, you will have a bad time. Lol.' Mean is 'ha-ha, I shot you in the leg, now you're dead. Lol.' A few game breaking issues I encountered is one during the tutorial level when the player tries to switch weapons, the game will crash. If the player dies in the map with the red dragon in it and reloads the save, the game will crash. Despite the updates, this still happens. Here's another small issue. The custom animations are very stiff. Some of the animations don't feel like they fit the character's intended action. The idle animation for Sury feels like a talking animation. and the ducking animation straight up looks like a sitting animation. The non-custom animations come straight from Half-Life 2. If you've played Half-Life 2 or Garry's Mod a lot, this is very noticeable. Speaking of Half-Life 2, there are TONS of assets from Half-Life 2 being used. Even more assets that aren't being used. Just sitting there taking up space. I'm pretty sure if you cut half of the game's files, the game would run just fine as if nothing happened. Now I didn't buy the game expecting top-of-the-line graphics with ray-tracing. No, I bought the game because the developer and I had a conversation after a left a message on Steam's Discussion Board. I was a little hard on the game even though I haven't played it, so they (indirectly) persuaded me into trying it. I would like to apologize for this review sounding harsh if not worse than the now deleted message I left on the discussion board. If this is the developer's first game, good job. Now learn from your mistakes and make something better and take constructive criticism seriously. That's how Scott Cawthon made Five Nights At Freddy's. Now if you think I'm taking this too seriously since this game is a parody, if no one took parodies seriously, then high end AAA media wouldn't be taken seriously either. I will not be translating this to Spanish. I don't trust Google.🙃
this game feels like a slight breeze would make it combust. it crashes if you exist too wrong. the game should not be 6 gigs. Looking through there's lots of duplicates, and weird things such as a mod/custom that just messes with HL2 models and textures. This does not feel like a game that had an official license or should even be on Steam, I mean the demo has a model that's the n-word, hard r. do not spend your money on this game, it barely functions and the joke of playing it wears off quickly as it'll crash at random points.
Well, after I play the game for almost 5 hours and see everything i can. Now im able to have my opinion. First of all, I have to say the game has it's problems and achievents. First in achievents, the grafics, characters, music are great. they are unique and they give the game it's own essence. I like that all the game lapse in island and that everyone has its own unique thing, the controller support its very good too. I don't have one but i like the detail. The story works just fine, it has his start, middle and end. It's not the next big story but it works for the game. The gameplay its alright, letting you choose of leaving, fighting or using your enviroment to play its good too. or exploring some places. The minigames and roguelike are fun enough to play for 1 hour or 1 hour and half, they are short but the works fine. Now for the problems... Sometimes the camera likes to block when you walk in some mountains, but it only happen 2 times. Anyways with the battle mode it can be solved so it's not a big problem. For some reason, in monday's night. when you go in a grass near sury's house it send you to high and you have to load. Anyways it only happen once. The parkour in Sury's house its a little tricky, but that a problem mine of skill issue you can say. Some words that says dragon gets in black, i don't know its that because author vision. But anyways i will say it. And now the big problem is in fat dragon's cave In fat Dragon's cave, you can explore because some parts crash the game ( i know the autor have worked a lot in it, but anyways that place crash a lot. idk why. Besides that problems that make the game a little longer that it should because i have to pass some parts again, the game its alright i recommend it if you want a game very promising and have a few hours of something different in source. And I know the next games the autor will create, if he create more. Are going to be better. But maybe he needs to make more people prove them to avoid problems like that said, but he can create very good games if he wants to.
i see the vision
This is just a fever dream type of game, First of all I just want to say I can tell quite a bit of effort was put into the game and I know it's a big deal to finish anything and release it, even with source engine so am not trying to put the dev down, but rather give pointers to improve in the future. There is a lot of different problems and issues, a lot of things that just don't make sense at all, and frankly I don't know why the developer decided on using the source engine. (especially since source isn't good at very large maps) It is still unfortunately a bit unstable at times and loading a save breaks gravity and your stamina.(and so requires a restart of the game) The story is hard to follow a bit some but I understand that english isn't their native tongue so am giving it a face value. so it is just kind of bland and boring having a lot of text on screen some times but other wise the story is just ok. It has inconsistency with how dialogue is displayed, Some times there is speech bubbles with a choreographed scene, other times it's an image on the screen, other times just text in the middle of the screen. This gives the game a incoherent feeling to the game and makes it quite chaotic. which if that is what the dev was looking for , they accomplished it, I just want to say that if you can you should show more than tell, it's ok to have less text if you can show something, and when you do show text it is good to stay consistent of the method used. A lack of more obvious indications of where the player should go and be-able to do hurts this quite a lot. There is no indication of when something is interactable, and the lack of knowing where to go most of the time just kind of has you explore aimlessly until you find something. Which brings me to the next thing level design, I don't know where to start. having some things unknown is ok, but when the player can't even know they are supposed to go to a boat and dock that you can't even see from a distance really detracts from the gameplay. Now some things are done ok like the castle as it is point of interest considering it's size, and so is the island but it's not quite enough to guide the player in the right direction after the first time. You just again aimlessly run around and just run into a trigger and just hope you can find a way to continue. In this case I would have recommended to place lights in area's of interest.(enable some, disable others as things progress.) Level's are also some what empty feeling a bit still. There is also area's where the player can go but has no point so those shouldn't allow the player to go there. open world doesn't mean the player is able to go anywhere at all times just able to do a good amount. There is different approaches doing it to detour and guide a player but not making them always feel like they have to or if they can should have a good reason for an area if able to be gotten to.(rewarding the player well) The audio is some times frankly a hard pill to swallow but can be ignored. Developer I recommend adding the music to be adjustable to the music slider in the menu it is as simple as putting # in front of a sound script or in your ambient_generic's. Next is Player controls, oh lordy they are just kind of horrendous frankly, it's hard to aim weapons, and some times get stuck going in and out of confined area's, and as well when cut scene's play they don't entirely stop the player from moving the camera most of the time. The player can some times get stuck in stuff or more recently I got stuck in the well not being able to jump anymore, I think it thought I was in the air still some how. you can also some times get thrown into the sky and beyond and not die, but most of the time you will die. Am just glad the game isn't a platformer focused game or I'd have much harder time with it (not intuitive). Combat, not great the stomping can work, but because of low moon gravity like and the player controller it's quite difficult to aim, melee can't really be used for combat and I understand that they are meant more for breaking things but more suitable melee options would have been nice, as for ranged weapons again hard to aim and hit, some times a crosshair isn't even visible.(most likely a bug) some weapons like bombs are nearly useless due to the gravity, For future reference please add an auto aim(enemy targeting) if you are going to be doing this sort of system it's a huge player Quality of Life feature. Next I want to talk about the graphics, I do have to say at least the style is some what consistent, and that it's just alright, it's nothing to ride home about but some of it could be improved. The game overall is a bit rough( scuffed even), some more smaller details or other things that could have improved the experience more but despite all the issues the game really still gave me a lot of laugh's and an enjoyable experience playing it for my friends to have a good time. Do I recommend you to get it? maybe if you like fever dream games then sure. this is just pretty baffling in the way where it's not a great game in fact it's bad in a lot of aspects but it's one of those kind of games that it is incredibly funny in that way even down to the prerender images.
