Very great horror game! I had a fun time playing it, and it was pretty spooky! i do have a fewww issues tho: it takes upwards of a minute to load some areas (aint too bad of an issue imo tho), farmer fowl himself does seem to have very little sight range; however thats all the issues i really experienced, overall its an epic game, hope you make more great games like this! -Vince
Such a good game! Getting chased by Farmer Fowl is truly terrifying! I also really appreciated voice acting. I am used to hearing a lot of AI, so hearing an actual human was awesome! Adding subtitles would be pretty cool but other than that I wouldnt change a thing!
I'd like to preface this review by stating I am a Play Tester & Voice Actor for this game and got a free key so there may be some inherent bias but I will try to be objective and give the criticisms I had in this review. You start the game in your apartment and need to get ready for work by grabbing your equipment. The FOV in this section is a bit tight feeling but it does set you up for how it'll be in the main section of the game and there it feels relatively fine. Once you get to the Farmhouse you get a few objectives explained to you by your friend on the phone while getting some backstory to the place and characters in this world which I appreciate. There IS lore in this game that is quite hidden but it's not completely needed to start piecing things together and just get a general idea of who you are and what you're doing. Once things start kicking off against the titular Farmer Fowl things will get scary fast. To keep things scary for anyone considering to get the game I'll put a spoiler tag for the rest of the review until my final score.
I really like the sound design that's been done with Fowl (maybe a bit of bias there), it is genuinely concerning whenever you're sneaking around and you hear it's breathing, especially when it suddenly changes to screaming as it hunts you down. I like how the difficulties will actually CHANGE how you play the game and it's explained how the AI will change. On Easy it's, surprisingly enough, easy with not much outside of basic vision detection. Intermediate will allow Farmer Fowl to hear you run. And Hard will let Fowl see you much better, even seeing your flashlight causing him to silently run towards it until it's turned off or he sees you. It's an interesting trade-off as while the harder difficulties will let Fowl find you easier, it can also be used to your advantage to lure him away from spots you may want to get to. This isn't a complete positive however, as when I played the game on Hard mode I noticed there is quite an easy cheese strat to get Fowl into an area that you won't need to go to much while you can explore pretty much the whole place for one of the later objectives, it doesn't work forever as he eventually will gravitate to where you are but it makes things much easier than intended. I've been told this will probably be addressed in a future patch. Another thing (that's more of a skill issue on my part) is objects being fairly hard to spot, which I think is relatively fine because the objectives shouldn't be too easy but maybe a simple cursor change could help when you're hovering right over something interact-able? My last issue which is fairly small is some minor bugs like LODs of objects changing within sight and Fowl noticing me sometimes feeling a bit random but these will be ironed out I'm sure. These were pretty much my 3 main gripes, as the rest of the game is fairly atmospheric and engaging.
Overall I give the game a 7.5/10. I think it's a good experience for the price and it being the developer's first publicly released game. I hope to see more in the future as I personally know a lot of passion was put into this project and I'm sure future Chatter Games will be no different and will be even better :)
Was very fun, and very scary! I screamed a few times and jumped in my chair. It could be rough finding things, but very worth figuring out in the end when feeling the relief. Everyone did amazing in this game!!
I would say overall this game was ok and I did like that it has voice acting. Level design wise it is a bit barren at Farmer Fowl's Farmhouse and it is very basic. Farmer Fowl himself was nicely designed and besides the level design the only other thing that I thought was a con was that you have to press the corresponding key once to pull out the camera for example then press it again to put it away before you are able to take out the flashlight. Fuses can also be very easy to miss since they are randomized every plathrough and I walked by one multiple times since I didn't know it could also be in the wooden box in the lobby lol. Overall an ok game it is very basic like I mentioned before and I felt like it lacked a bit of atmosphere of an abandoned children's attraction. Maybe that tv segment on the trailer could of been put in the ending to add flavor to the game so to speak? https://youtu.be/8uPl85RYras
honestly a great horror game, its a bit short but otherwise really fun, its also bros first game and im pretty surprised on how good it is. fnaf aint got nothin on this
Pretty decent game overall, especially for the price tag. Farmer Fowl's design is quite unnerving (mainly because of the eyes), and the sounds he makes are disturbing and will catch you off guard. I really like how you can use his hearing to your advantage by luring him to places you want him to be in via running. The only issues I have with the game are the voice acting, optimization, and set dressing. When your main helper character speaks, it sounds like some of the things he says were come up with on the spot or not rehearsed, like when he says the name "James" for example. I don't know if it was a matter of how the script was read or if there was no script, but I do hope in future games made by the developer, the voice acting sounds a bit more natural. The game's performance is also pretty inconsistent - in the opening levels and when the main facility goes pitch black, I can easily get over 100 fps at 1440p Ultra settings. However, when I'm in the main facility with all the lights on, I get sub-60 fps at 1440p Ultra. Lastly, I do wish the set dressing of the facility matched the vibes this game is going for. As someone who grew up in the American South, it feels weird having a location that is supposed to evoke those same feelings just...not evoke those feelings. The building is supposed to be a kids' entertainment facility themed around farms and barns, but the interior doesn't evoke much farm-y feeling outside of some wooden crates with fruits in them. Overall, I do think the game is worth the $3 price tag, as it is pretty fun and the jumpscares will certainly freak you out a lot. There are just some small problems with it, but nothing that will make you outright dislike the game.
A great experience. Great story, great dialog, great atmosphere, but the gameplay is a bit frustrating, and the ending is lame.
