Latest update - gonna put me through 5000000 menus to play again? Now I have to manually unlock half the cards I used to play with? Too much work. I'm done.
This game used to be fun, until the latest patch completely changed it. Now, you have to pay gems (bought with real money or earned in game) to unlock cards. Oh, the locked cards still show up in-game, by the way. Congrats, you just earned a treasure? No you didn't, unless you pay real money to unlock it. After 2 years, locking characters, items, spells, and treasures that we once had access to behind paywalls is ridiculous. If they really wanted cards behind paywalls, they could have introduced new cards, and only locked them behind the paywall, but even that would not have been fun. Taking away cards we previously had access to feels terrible.

Welcome back, Storybook Brawl.
Im a huge fan of this game, But upon redownloading they seem to have (I think???) removed a huge wack of characters from the game, Its totally killed any strategy of the game. If im wrong feel free to correct me in comments, I do so hope to be wrong
Literally unplayable as the loading bar is stuck after filling. Also what sort of retrogression is it that a game you launch on Steam needs to retrieve content after installation?! Borders on suspicious. Would not install-again!
When you copy the answers from the smart kid and still somehow get everything wrong
I know its been a bit since I last played, but... What??? No.
It's a good game, with two glaring drawbacks. This is an autobattler following the Storybook Brawl recipe. You can play up to seven characters, four in the front row and three in the back row, with attack order is fixed. After every fight if there are any units surviving, the loser takes damage. There are eight players per lobby, and the winner is whoever has health left after everyone else has died. Every turn you get a set amount of gold that increases as the game goes on, which you can spend on units, spells, or items. You also get a set amount of mana which is used on spells (spells take both gold and mana). Buying three copies of a unit or completing quests gives you a treasure, which have unique effects. Fairytale Fables has several design advantages over Storybook Brawl. One is that heroes attack after every fight, which can kill surviving units and means losing fights in the early-game is less punishing. That means you (at least you feel like) have more agency, since you get to make more decisions. Other advantages are it has asynchronous mode (you have infinite thinking time; fights start only when you press "ready") for those who only have a few minutes or who are learning the game, and there are more unique comps (by which I mean unique - there are no other comps that function the same way). Finally, like Storybook Brawl, the game is updated quite often, which goes some way to keeping things fresh. That said, it has two major weaknesses. The first is that the extra comps come with increased complexity. It is not obvious how to build many of the comps (and the way the comps work change with balance patches too). This does mean top players have scope to differentiate themselves from the pack, but it also means the learning curve is much higher. The other is that the game has fairly few players. You run into saved boards a lot as a result, which is not that interesting since it's possible to counterplay saved boards. It also means that there can be a "checkmate time" at the end where the saved board stops improving even though they're not dead yet. Finally, the game is less competitive because there are fewer players; it's not that uncommon for the top players to average a placing of 2 or better over all their matches. If you don't mind the two weaknesses, then this game is great. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Very good successor to Storybook Brawl! Only regret I didn't discover this game sooner!
