Let's Begin: This is a passion project made by a solo developer, and it's his first game, these facts alone makes me respect this game, and it deserves recognition! But how the game itself fare on its own merits? let's see: Lore: A new world filled with its own backstory is presented here, the lore can be found along the playthrough, though you don't need to learn of it to play, and that's the beauty of it, it recognizes that it has a history, but it's up to the player to explore it if it wishes, it's not mandatory, the main character has his own story to follow in this world. Characters: Diverse cast of characters, though most of 'em are NPCs and do not talk much, but each has a piece of lore or just flavor text (sometimes easter-eggy or just funny) to say to you, and some (although few) characters are recurring, making you come back to 'em for Missions, Barter and such. Levels: Levels are diverse as in there are many different places your character goes, a march, a castle, a forest and etc, some of 'em are bigger than others and it can get a little repetitive on the bigger areas, making you question if you were there before, though this is not common as many bigger areas have a "landmark" of some kind, unique to that screen. Gameplay: Controls are a little hard to get used to, but there are just a few buttons in the game, so it's easy to know what each button does, the controls are based on older games so it feels like a CD era PC-Game. Graphics: Good Ol' Pixel Art style! some say it's saturated in the market, I say, KEEP 'EM COMIN', like I said before, the game was made by a solo dev, and he did an amazin' job at designing this game! while it has fewer pixels than most Pixelated games nowadays, it makes it feel like a Classic game, I dare say, from the Amiga era, and you can tell what thing is what, though I admit that the different races on the game are harder to distinguish from some others. Mechanics: It is very "Zelda-like" you got your character with the main weapon and a few lives, while going through the game you can acquire different Armor, Weapons, more health-points and such, you got a menu that not only keeps your items and keeps a tab on your collectibles, but it also has a "Lore-Page" where you inspect some Key-items, Bosses are as expected, but have no life-bar, and (some) enemies can respawn. Overall: This game really is a Passion project, if you check the development of it, you can see that, it took a long time to come into fruition and I respect every aspect its creation, Good lil' game that Deserves your attention, A solid 9/10 from me is in Order!~
A bit challenging for me, but I love the art style and sense of exploration. Looking forward to seeing what else the developer comes up with(Spirittea).!
Rich lore pixel art RPG quest for love. Horrid creatures, nightmares, cursed relics. Armor, Weapons, Equipment. NPC's with fetch quests and shops. All the right ingredients for a fantastic little game https://youtu.be/NyZJ3B5O7sE
Fables of Talumos is a surprisingly good game that manages to hit those sweet nostalgia notes for fans of the old Zeldas. It was made by a single dev and as such is not a game without flaws, however, the good outweighs the bad, and there's a great adventure game to be played here. The amount of lore/flavor to be found in the game is impressive. The world-building is so good that you can't help but feel disheartened when you get to the end and you find out it was over before you could visit all the places mentioned by the NPCs. I enjoyed my time playing this game and finished it twice, collecting all achievements in the process. I'd love a chance to explore the "whole" world of Talumos, so I will keep my eyes peeled if the dev ever decides to give it another chance. It deserves it.
A game that I'm really enjoying !!! Even if the basic idea is really simple (explore several areas killing enemies and gathering objects) the developer was able to introduce several different mechanics in different parts of the game: a labyrinth with a kind of first person battles, an area where you have to play hide-and-seek within shadows, and I expect even more. There are also many collectables, that really encourage me to deeply explore each zone. This together with a nice (a pretty deep) lore that one can discover step-by-step doing all the side-quest (and there are a lot of those!). Boss battles grow in difficulty going on with the story, but I never find them impossible (neither simple!). Finally, the music and art are really really beatiful : one can see the effort put into realizing this game. Small cons : the story is not essential (or at least I'm not really "feeling" it so much until this point); sometimes the keyboard commands can be a bit complex; there is no (mini-)map of the areas (but I think this is a precise choice of the dev). However, I super recommend this game and again many congratulations to the dev !
Wonderfully fun game. World filled monsters, trinkets, stories and boss fights that keep you on edge until the moment your sword (or which ever weapon you come to fall in love with) ends their life. This game is a love letter to older rpgs like zelda of days gone that filled me with nostalgia while having a nice mix of differing game play to keep your heart pumping and your curiosity ticking. Highly enjoyed this adventure through enchanting forests to haunted castles its been a blast and if you're reading to see if you should get this game just buy it now and thank me later. tldr ; Loved every minute of this fun nostalgic rpg filled with monsters, lore, secrets and action, Now extremely excited to see the developers next game spirittea
This thing feels.. geniune and honest. I did not go far yet, but it there is more than meet the eye here, I can just feel it!
