"Excommunicated" is another one of those attempts at "making typing fun!", but this doesn't make typing better, it just makes gaming a little worse. The premise of the game isn't that bad, there's some narrative, you take on the role of a female investigator (like an investigator who is also female, not an investigator of women) and you have to solve the puzzle of an abandoned space base of some kind. Combat and exploration are accomplished by typing target words as fast as you can. You can also practice your typing by writing thousands of game reviews, like me. I don't recommend it though... the godawful games most people ignore are soul destroying if you play too many of them. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Great little game! Nice music choices. Intuitive controls and level layout.
Space, horror, typing challenge. You have me intrigued....

Gives you very little time to type in what you need to before you get attacked. I like the concept of the game but unless you like time limited pressure to act, this may not be the game for you. Rating: 5/10
Feels unfinished to me. I like the art, and the general mechanics. But there are many small issues, and I can't continue past the computer terminal. Not sure what I'm meant to be doing there.
