The human powers-that-be called for the purification of mankind and the eradication of vampires and ‘deviants bloodlines’ - those born of a mix of human and vampire. And so began massive purges of the deviants that were reminiscent of the 'witch hunts' of centuries earlier.
Bullet hell shooter where you play as a witch. Gameplay consist of changing your color depending on the situation, same color as bullets absorb them but is weak against foes of the same type. For stronger attack use reverse color to deal more damage. Absorb bullets of the same type to charge powerful special. Enemy formations are ok, there isn't much variety here. Each level ends with boss fight, so be prepared to meet your doom. To play this game somewhat decent you have to practice a bit as you will get confused often on which color to use in barrage of bullets. Controls are ok however there's no native controller support so make sure to download some good community layout in the controller settings. Visual side is ok except backgrounds which are bland and boring. Music is good especially boss theme. As usual in eXceed series sounds are super loud so make sure to tweak them down in the config. Ok shooter but you should probably play Ikaruga instead...
better than ikaruga

The eXceed series games and OSTs will be DELISTED from Steam on Jan 6th!
A massive improvement over the first game in almost every way imaginable. The soundtrack in particular is a HUGE step-up from Gun Bullet Children, and is very worth of praise. Chinatsu's boss theme "Shock!!" and late boss theme "Puppe" are some of my favorite tracks. I even go out of my way to listen to them on their own sometimes. Gameplay-wise, it has been compared to Ikaruga, and I find that to be an accurate assessment. It's very fun and offers a good challenge in the last few stages. If you somehow landed on the Steam store page for eXceed before the delist, then PLEASE consider buying them + their original soundtracks. I absolutely think the series deserves it. Afterwards, it is highly likely they will turn into abandonware, never to be sold legally again.
I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
Touhou vibes
Bullet Hell Wet Dream!!!! UWU
The second game in the eXceed series. This version (REX) is actually a remake of the original "eXceed 2nd - Vampire" which is why it runs so much better than the first game in the series. The game borrows the polarity mechanic from Ikaruga. That means you can press a button to change your polarity from light to dark and vice-versa. Projectiles with your same polarity charge a special attack that clears the screen of bullets and deals a ton of damage to enemies while touching projectiles with a different color kills you like usual. Enemies and bosses are resistant to their own polarity too so you generally wanna stay in dark against a boss with a light aura, as an example. There's also a dynamic difficulty system in place so the better you do the harder the game gets whereas dying resets you to a lower difficulty. I'm not sure if harder difficulties are really harder though because more bullets means your special attack gets charged faster as well, I guess it's more of a risk vs reward thing. I also enjoyed the soundtrack and the art is very clean, it's kind of a shame that they basically drop all of the characters in the third installment. Anyways, this game is good and might even be a good option if you are trying to get into SHMUPs because it has an easy mode and all. It goes on sale often too.
The eXceed series is my introduction to Touhou-like bullet hells, and the second game is actually fun. There's some noticeable jank but unlike the garbage first game this actually feels smooth to control. Pity it's no longer available for purchase on steam.
