I know it's RPG Maker, and I've played MANY RPG Maker games, but something about this game feels super cozy, like I just want to idle in the environments and listen to the music. The pixel art style in this game just does something for me, and sets it apart from looking like just another generic asset title. For some reason Steam isn't reporting my actual time played though. I really wish it had achievements! Edit: I saw one of the negative reviews stating that you couldn't change the resolution. Apparently the game has been patched since then, and has resolution settings in the options now.
It's a love letter to classic JRPGs. It's funny, simple, and endearing.

If you like Earthbound or FF4, you should try this. It's very cute and funny, super comfy to play. The graphics are beautiful, the music is sweet, and the battles are fun. Can't really ask for much more, especially for free! You have to reset any global settings for the game when you restart it, but that's not really a big deal.
This is possibly the most generic game on Steam. It is a bare bones JRPG with just enough elements to count it as a video game. Yes, it's free! I get it, it's not supposed to be amazing! But still, I feel like this game is just... so generic. - Levels are very easy to get. In the desert area, I was leveling up after every one or two fights. - The game is obnoxiously easy. No difficulty changes either! I didn't even lose to the final boss, and only lost to the
superboss
due to not being prepared. The only other times I lost was to the first boss and the boss on the
moon.
- Why is this game laggy? This is something I've seen other people say too, and I'm so confused on how an RPGMaker game is laggy. - The combat is so boring. Also, the first boss requires you to grind basically as soon as you start the full game... like MOTHER 1. - All the art is from other sources, and overworld sprites are constantly reused. As another negative review said, this wouldn't be too bad, but for a game made in 2021, that is so lame... - If you're looking for a game with story, don't bother. This game only has lore. The main story is non-existent. - The music is comically generic. You could put this music in any other JRPG and it would fit. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece of a soundtrack, but the songs are just so generic! - You are thrown into the world without knowing what you're supposed to do, where you're supposed to go, how you're supposed to do anything, when do things happen, who is this, who, what, when, where, WHY? Why make a game have the progression similar to that of the old Dragon Quest games??? - Speaking of Dragon Quest, apparently this game is inspired by Dragon Quest... as in they literally took ideas from it. No changing, no nothing. Exact same concepts. As a creative writer, I say you are allowed to write a story despite it being unoriginal, but this game is like if you took Star Wars, called it War Star and said it's your own. - I will say that the character variety is good. I like the amount of characters you can choose to have in your party. All in all... don't bother. I have genuinely no idea what the positive reviews are on about. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I would pay for this.
Excaliburian is a delightful little RPG in the vein of Dragon Quest 2 through 4. Simplicity is its greatest strength: its mechanics are few, plain, and impactful, which suits its brisk pace and terse script. I think more games should be small like this. Remember to use status effects and debuffs on bosses.
It's fun gathering companions but there's zero interaction. The only time they talk is our first "conversation" which concludes within 3 lines of dialogue. The endings felt tad underwhelming, perhaps the dev wanted to keep it cozy. Still, I did not regret playing it. Exploration is very satisfying, fights are well balanced, the silly moments are funny and unlike many RPGs, there's almost nothing in the game that wastes your time. Definitely worth a try.
a brilliant bite-sized dragon quest/rpgmaker2k homage.
Good game, a bit different from most rpg maker rpgs. Great replay value due to all the characters to choose from for gameplay. Multiple endings to discover. I highly recommend playing this!
Jeu rapide, simple de prise en main. Petite histoire sympa
