I've played eve for a few weeks and what sets it apart is eve takes effort. If you want to give nothing to the game that's exactly what you'll get, if you stroll in with you eyes closed you'll quickly become the player that gets blown up randomly and doesn't know why. Heed the warnings of the player base, a 15 minute youtube video breaking down basic functionality can prevent you from losing all your loot on a explorer mission. If you take no effort to learn the basic functionality of the available UIs and how they interact with the world, other players, and basic gameplay, youll lose all your loot on a mission until you learn the hard way. The game is extremely unforgiving, but the playerbase is not. Its the game that is ruthless, if you leave your PC afk in a highly trafficked area and come back after 180s to a wreck, you really dont have anyone else to blame. Its called "the dark souls of mmo" for a reason. That being said ive taken a large degree of enjoyment out of the gameplay, learning to use the UI over the first few hours emulated a level of mastery not seen in the typical skill rotation MMO. Learning the games intricacies is extremely rewarding and the players at the top of the food chain know exactly what's happening why how when where and by whom. But also the game isn't completely unapproachable, a knowledgeably new player with tenacity and understanding can quickly overwhelm a casual long-term player with a larger ship caught off guard. A new player on day one can go do faction warfare or null sec exploring and earn hundreds of million and hour potentially. If you've gotten this far Eve online is the game for you, Eve rewards preparedness and knowledge, the game isn't centered around something like bullet spread and reaction time. If your reaction to taking any mild risk is stepping back and researching your options, Eve is the game for you. If you're the type of person that doesn't mind making calculated risks at the mercy of your own action and preparation, Eve is the game for you. If you're looking for a quick game that takes zero effort to learn, Eve isn't the game for you. If you're looking for a game that takes out almost all of the options so you can streamline decision making, Eve isn't the game for you. Don't get me wrong, the game has low effort activity, there are low risk tasks but there's typically always the risk. Its part of the game but when you win, you can win big.
