Why do I need the "feudalism" institution to mine iron? Tell that to the iron age tribes that caused the bronze age collapse almost 2000 years before feudalism was invented. At least give me a way to independently develop feudalism if you're going to do that. Seems like a very cheesy way of gating technological progression and is unnecessarily Eurocentric. Maybe I don't want to have to be forced to play as Europe all the time in every game.
Stop releasing half-baked games at ridiculous prices before you get a reputation like EA or Ubisoft's
Save your money until the game gets more developed. At the moment, every campaign I start, I find myself getting bored after 100 years, as there's just nothing to build up to. I know some people disliked EU4's mission trees for being too railroaded, but they at least gave each nation unique goals and a sense of progression. Currently, they do have some historical events, but it's not clear how you get them to fire, leading you to either find a guide to assist you or just miss 80 to 90% of them because the trigger conditions are so specific that it's basically impossible to stumble into them. At the moment, all nations just feel the same after 100 years. Even nations like Castille and France, which historically had a lot going on, just feel interchangeable.
I do this for the good of Europa.
All they have done since release is nurf the fun out of the game and remover things they had at launch. I came back to play a Greenland into Vinland for an alt history playthrough. And they removed the possibility from the game nurfing one of the already weakest starts in the game. Outside the devs removing the little fun you can have the game as a whole is juts boring.
I so looked forward to this game and pre-purchased the premium version. Loved EUIV and had a couple thousand hours in it. I can't even get started in this. Very sad that I bought it.
Review after 1.3: Don't believe the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game trailer its NOT at all what the game is like blobbing is punished harshly and playing tall isn't rewarding. What could go wrong fighting against players having fun. UI still too many menu's, Warfare isn't interesting its boiled down to CK2 combat where more men = you winning(levies and trained army) tl;dr, Technology is boring(you rush the same things every game), Institutions dont matter jack all as it will spread in no time across the world, Economy is setup the same for any country like Vicky 3 is, Naval micromanagement still more annyoing than EU4, Naval combat is garbage, Trade makes no sense. Fun fact Asian countries are usually stronger than European countries. Control<Autonomy(eu4). Cabinet Actions are boring to micromanage, societal values is another dumb thing. Cabinet members are mary sues being able to do everything Converting religion or culture, changing societal values, strenghtening the crown, increasing stability, integrating land, solidify control over land etc.. Education is garbage why would I care about the Noble faction children's... but they are family... useless waste of time to setup. Countries are bland most historical events are garbage: here is 5 prestige, here is a building. France has Jeanne D' Arc events that I have never ever seen fire in anyone's game, the English need her more than France does, the 100-year war is usually over in 50-75 years with ai(was faster before 1.3). Ottomans will never rise as the brick wall of The Mamlukes is too strong, the Mamlukes usually end up around 5th Great Power. Colonizing the America's is not worth it as the a.i. colonial subjects WILL revolt in the last age, the money brought in is abysmal, they can also turn off your buildings( ex. plantations) that you have build inside them. tl;dr It really is an Early Access, because they litterally have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ they are doing with this game. There is no end vision of what EU5 should be, My predictions is that they will make the pre-order DLC and then this game will be abandoned to avoid legal issues, in the mean-time they will try somewhat to see if they can still make it work.
Too much micromanagement it simply takes all the fun out of the game, and personally, I think they should add the mission tree like in EU4, it makes the game more fun and meaningful. If in the future they managed to reduce the aumount of micromanagement, the game will be more playable and fun.
