Don't buy this if you don't have good enough CPU or RAM, although I don't think that matters much since: THIS GAME CRASHED FREQUENTLY WHEN CLICKING NEW GAME EVEN WHEN NO MODS ARE LOADED! I don't want to gamble if my PC will crash and need restart every time I have to start or load a game! FIX IT! At first I had hope since the dev updated it frequently a month after release date, but then they only focus on features, "balances", and didn't fixed the crashing issues at all... Some of the updates were sometimes so flip-floppy that it changed the feel of the game (They turned it down but still not that sandboxy as EU4)
It'll be good one day. Give it 10 years and spend $500 and it'll be a good game.
Johans vision for this game forgot one critical element: Making it actually fun to play, and somehow it gets worse with every patch, most recently the pop growth/disease balancing nightmare but many other extremely questionable decisions that in the end just make the game less fun, maybe in a few years with masive overhauls to many of this games core systems it can surpass eu4, but for now Id avoid this game, who knows if they'll pull another imperator or not.
The game is bugged since the release date. Paradox is more interested in adding content than fixing bugs. I played nearly 650h now. Every campaign reached a point (usually quite early) where it becomes unplayable because of some broken mechanics. The game was unplayable and still is now. Launching a game in this state is a disgrace and shows how bad paradox really cares for their client.
Too much micromanagement it simply takes all the fun out of the game, and personally, I think they should add the mission tree like in EU4, it makes the game more fun and meaningful. If in the future they managed to reduce the aumount of micromanagement, the game will be more playable and fun.
Save your money until the game gets more developed. At the moment, every campaign I start, I find myself getting bored after 100 years, as there's just nothing to build up to. I know some people disliked EU4's mission trees for being too railroaded, but they at least gave each nation unique goals and a sense of progression. Currently, they do have some historical events, but it's not clear how you get them to fire, leading you to either find a guide to assist you or just miss 80 to 90% of them because the trigger conditions are so specific that it's basically impossible to stumble into them. At the moment, all nations just feel the same after 100 years. Even nations like Castille and France, which historically had a lot going on, just feel interchangeable.
worst game of all time i wish i could get a refund
Stop releasing half-baked games at ridiculous prices before you get a reputation like EA or Ubisoft's
