ETERNAL BLOOD

I wish Steam had a "Neutral" review option, because that's what I would give this. This is a pretty bare-bones horde survival shooter. I like the concept. Art style reminds me of Doom 2016, especially the Hell Knight-esque enemies complete with the jumping hand slam waves. The environments are nice, enemy designs are neat, but there is a lot left to be desired. Visibility is low, the contrast between blinding lights (fireballs) and nearly pitch-black environments makes distinguishing between your projectiles and enemy projectiles difficult at times and can be headache-inducing. You have only 2 fire modes, shooting fireballs or charging up an exploding fireball. There are no "actual" weapons. You can get stuck on the terrain sometimes, in one map you can fall into a trench and struggle to get out even after repeatedly trying to jump to get out. I'd love it if there was an objective visible in the pause menu or a survival countdown timer somewhere, even if not on screen, maybe on the pause menu. Or possibly one you could choose to display or not display. Trying to remap controls with Steam input for controller is just...ehhh. Plays and feels kind of like a student summer game development project. Overall, kinda "meh"

If you like games such as devil daggers, crossbow bloodnight and Voidslayer, you MIGHT like this game. If anything it could be a good side game for people who like such games. Eternal Blood stands out quite alot from these by having a huge map, and also by having to collect crystals fast. Once you have enough you enter rage mode, in which you haft to quickly destroy many towers and the big "titan" enemies as quickly as possible. It also stands out in that the goal is not really to survive as long as possible, but to kill the giant demon at the end who spawns if you managed to enter rage mode enough times. The game is atmospheric. The game looks and sounds fairly well, although I do not really like the main firing sound which simply should have been better and more beefy considering how much you will listen to it. It sounds good when you are in rage mode tho. I like the enemies in this game. One thing that is perhaps a negative is that once you really figured out how to play the game, the only real thing that is really a threat to you is the suicide monsters, which always deals damage to you no matter what. You cant dodge it if it decides to blow up. Even dashing away from it does nothing. I just think it is kinda awkward that this one mob is what will pretty much always kill you despite a good enemy variety. But hey at least this one mob keeps the game challenging.

Three hours in and I'm LOVING this game! Highly addictive gameplay with grisly atmosphere and loads of style. I keep telling myself, "Just one more round..."
