Eselmir and the five magical gifts

This point-and-click adventure is great for those looking for a slower game with an in-depth story. The game was inspired by a series of books, giving it deeper worldbuilding and a good narrative. Most of the puzzles are good. There are a few strange ones, but hey, there's a walkthrough if you get stuck.

Quando ho iniziato a giocare mi ha fatto una strana impressione. Intanto la grafica: sembra di assistere a uno spettacolo di marionette davanti a sfondi disegnati a mano. Poi i dialoghi: a tratti tendono a essere abbastanza lunghi. Però, paradossalmente, quelli che sembrano punti deboli sono proprio quel che rende questo gioco quel che è: c'è un'atmosfera tutta particolare, che lo trasforma, più che in un'avventura, in un'esperienza. In sintesi, non si ispira a un libro fantasy, ma lo incarna. Preciso che non ho avuto compensi per aver scritto questa recensione, e non ho nessuna parentela o relazione di alcun tipo con gli autori del gioco e del libro, e non sono uno di loro.

One huge flaw immediately jumps to your face: illegibility, Texts use a strenuous typeface, some kind of Blackletter. Texts are displayed directly over background, without speech balloons or banderoles. Often with minimal contrast. And it's a very talkative title. A second huge flaw soon jumps to your leg and starts humping it: emptiness. Long, long, long, long, long rooms full of nothing to walk through. Stacked on top of each other, along with lifeless transitional staircases. That's not a point n' click any more. That's a bloody walking simulator. The naive, almost tacky art is attractive; it titillates my curiosity. The interface is classically good, with all the features I would expect. Too bad the game got crippled twice.
