Reviews
The screenshots look more engaging than the game sadly is.
Genre: -Metroidvania Fit for me: -Top 3 fav genre, so great! Pros: -I love the monochromatic, minimalist aesthetic. It looks awesome. Each biome has a distinct color and each one fits the Digiton World really well. The art design really reminds me of Kunai or Gato Roboto, but I think Enter Digiton's art design may be more unique. -Really well designed cohesive interconnected world that all fits really well. This game gave me some Ato vibes, but I thought that the world building was much better here, and the biomes made more sense. Each biome has a distinct theme, color palette, and unique enemies. No one biome felt too difficult. -Solid sense of progression w/ plenty of upgrades available to be unlocked. You will gain 4 major abilities that you can use at any time, and you can wear one mask at a time. Each mask has a strength and weakness attached to it, so there's some strategy to selection which I really liked. -Good amount of collectibles make exploring really rewarding. After unlocking a new ability, I always was excited to go back and try to find collectibles that I may missed in one of the areas I had already completed. -The multipurpose shield was a smart choice. It can be used to block, thrown like a sword, or can be thrown under you, giving you such extra air to try and find some secrets. Cons: -Not as responsive as the best metroidvanias out there. It feels like there is a very slight delay. You can't spam the block button or the dash, but it's possible that the dev thought the game would be better w/ a more methodical approach. -You can't mark anything on the map and it doesn't tell you where you've already found items on the map. Even w/ a guide, you'll probably struggle to find everything b/c you won't remember which items you found, and which you missed (I'm at 99.5% completion, lol). -There's too much backtracking and it feels a bit too linear. You will likely go through every biome a couple of times, but ultimately, you are forced to go the exact way that the dev wants you to go. You must get every key in a specific order or you won't be able to progress. -You can't rebind the controls and I'm not a fan of using z,x,c. As a whole, this game is a bit rough around the edges. It could use some modern quality of life updates. Thoughts: -I had a good time for most of my 7+ hours. This is a creative metroidvania that should please most fans of the genre. This isn't the most creative game out there, but it checks all the boxes for a well designed and interesting metroidvania. It has a really nice difficulty curve that won't bore you, but also won't make you want to break your keyboard. This is an easy recommendation when on sale. Consensus: -Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). If you have already played the big guns of metroidvanias like Hollow Knight, Ori, and the Messenger, then this may be a good choice for you. Support this solo dev and add Enter Digiton to your library.
