Emma's Umbrella is a lovely little retro platformer that has a lot of different mechanics to offer over 10 short levels. I usually struggle with the difficulty of such games, but this one is just right! I felt the challenge, but it always felt fair and doable. So much that I actually finished the game. There are no enemies or bosses in this game. It was okay for me, but I think it is worth mentioning. It would've probably raised the difficulty level and would make the game a bit more versatile (and perhaps longer). There are golden coins "hidden" in the levels, which are fairly easy to spot and get. However, I don't think it actually does anything if you find them all (except for a Steam achievement). An unlockable bonus level in exchange for the coins would've been a nice addition. What really stands out and cannot be praised enough are the pixel graphics of the game. It looks really stunning, and the detail in the animated rainy background just adds so much atmosphere to the game. I really enjoyed the game overall.
Such a fun game to play! Very fluid gameplay, a great variety of mechanics (especially for a simpler game like this), responsive controls, nice graphics, and well-balanced difficulty — not too hard to get frustrating, but not too easy to feel boring. Gave me a really fun time, definitely worth the investment!
A great idea, that needed more care to truly shine I discovered this game during its development, thanks to Instagram and an unexpected connection with my own project. Since then, I’ve followed every update with curiosity, and now that it’s finally out, I’m glad I got to play it. The core idea is solid, clearly inspired by games like Celeste, but with its own personality. The real issue lies in the execution: level design is highly inconsistent. It swings from fairly simple, almost basic sections to others that suddenly demand extreme precision, bordering on pixel perfect. This uneven pacing makes the overall experience feel less smooth than it could have been. That said, I still had fun, even if I lost a controller along the way (may it rest in peace). I’m also really satisfied that I managed to get the platinum! Maybe it's because the game just came out, but being one of the first to achieve it makes me feel honored to have played it. Despite its flaws, I’m happy I experienced it. I hope the developer keeps creating. There’s real potential here, and I’d love to see it fully realized with more attention and care.
The game was made by a beginner developer, mixing Mario mechanics with Celeste and uumbrella. It's really quick to complete, about half an hour. There are no frustrating parts, and there are always new and varied gameplay. I really enjoyed it ^^
