I love text based "your choice matters" kind of games, but it'd be an exaggeration to call this game one.
Played this a couple times before but had to try again after I found it on Steam, even though I knew every ending was going to be frustrating. Was this how Emily felt breaking up with Brad and then getting together again? When it's good it's really good, when it's bad well... maybe this time will be different!? It would be nice if this game provided some choices that didn't totally destroy the main character's friendship with Emily. The available choices weren't the greatest - best friend just went through a breakup and comes to visit someone she definitely had feelings for, what *rebound cough rebound* could possibly go wrong? - vs. best friend just went through a breakup and gets refused contact when she probably already feels lonely as ♥♥♥♥. Neither could have ended well. But were these realistic choices made by young people still figuring out the difference between infatuation, love and everything in between? Absolutely - and that's why I can't truly fault the game. I'd have liked at least an amicable friendship ending, but sometimes that's just not how things go. Sometimes you just meet the right person at the wrong time and what would have been possibilities turn into regrets. While most of this is just heavily implied in the game, I still appreciate the truth of it. I can only hope Emily wasn't manipulated back into a toxic relationship though.

why can't we just be happy Emily, I want you
Pretty short but it's a great game with a sad story. Your choices matter and there are some cool easter eggs.I grew up with Windows XP & MSN, this makes me very nostalgic.
📖 Historia : 10/10 brad desgraçado 🎵 Trilha Sonora : ❌ 🎨 Gráficos : 5/10 Gráficos simples e nostálgico anos 2000 ⚙️ Requisitos : qualquer coisa roda 🎮 Jogabilidade : 1/10 Apenas o botão esquerdo do mouse ⭐ Dificuldade : 2/10 Fácil demais 🏆 Platinado : ✅
A short but (bitter)sweet experience. I wasn’t alive during this era of the internet, so it was nice to experience it vicariously through this game. As for the story, it’s so great yet so saddening. I feel like everybody has experienced some extent of what this game conveys, and that's what makes it hurt so much more... 100% recommended.
It's a cool game with a neat concept! Overall you sort of always end up in a bad spot no matter what, but once I realized that I ended up enjoying the story for what it is a lot more. I did enjoy it quite a bit.

Beware before you read - there will be spoilers about the outcome of the game. If you want to be surprised or keep things fresh, it's best to avoid reading this review. This game is very short, very simple, but enjoyable. It hits really close to home and will make your heart ache in a way that feels a little all too real and familiar. I have gone out of my way to get all the steam achievements (basically, play the game your way, and do some easter eggs) and get all 3 main endings (the "goodbye", "bitter", and "excuse" endings). With that said, it doesn't matter what variation of the "goodbye" ending you get or the other endings you get, this game ends simply in one way - you and Emily drifting apart from one another. It's a feeling a lot of us 20+ individuals know all too well. You finish high school, maybe go to college, and your circle(s) from your time in high school inevitably grow apart (obviously, there is the rare exceptions). No matter what you may or may not have done, the relationship would've ended, and you would've grown apart. Sometimes, the best thing, is to let go, and keep moving forward in life. Not worry about the what-ifs or what could've been done to keep things in tact; only acceptance. That's exactly what this game displays and it does it in a very emotional way, but in a way that makes you feel less alone, and less sh**y about it. It's a natural part of being a living being. Heartbreaking, but warming at the same time. It's free and definitely worth the try (even if you don't end up liking it). 7/10 just for the lackluster choice of options and short run time (as displayed by my playtime in the review), but there are 2 follow-up's, if you want more. I'm about to play the second (Emily is Away Too) and I'm excited to see the improvements made! :3
