Emiko's Pledge is a template flip from Anamik Majumdar, who keeps reskinning the same lame GameMaker Studio game templates and re-releasing them on Steam with a few minor changes. The GameMaker Studio templates he keeps re-releasing are just basic retro pixel (couldn't he rip off a template with proper graphics??) 2D top down/platformer stealth/action games. Here's some other copy + pastes from Anamik of exactly the same game template: The 2D retro pixel platformer template:

Balloon Azuna
Boon Boon
Christmas Cats Revenge
Electronic World Z
Fight For Love
Jaxon The Thief
Keatz: The Lonely Bird
Mission XAM
NightmareZ
Orange Santa
Smash Halloween Pumpkins: The Challenge
Super Strawberry Man
The Christmas Gifts
The Hero of Bangaona
The Valley of Super Flowers
Yui Tui
Zack Y
There's also this other template which has been copied+pasted many times: The 2D top down retro pixel stealth/darkness template:

Abandoned Croxon Mansion
Axizon Labs: Zombies
Gaze At Maze
Ghost In The Barn House
Gregor Hills Haunted Hospital
Haunted Jail: Alcatas
Heltons Haunted Hotel
House Number 666
My Haunted Doll
Rescue Rina
The Chills
The Haunted Exmone Theatre
The Haunted Tunnel
Canterz Paranormies
And honorable mentions, the two shoot 'em up copy+pastes, Proxy Air Force and Warships on the Halloween Night. These are all basically the exact same GameMaker Studio game templates with a different skin and a couple of things changed. No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. No matter how many times this guy copy+pastes the same game, it's not suddenly going to become anything but garbage. Rehashing the same game over and over again is just a cheap nasty cash grab. While Anamik Majumdar occasionally breaks Valve guidelines for partners and attacks reviewers, any legitimacy he may have is eradicated by the way he pumps these copy+paste asset flips out and bulk sells keys to crapware bundle merchants like DailyIndieGame. It's also important to note Anamik Majumdar has denied using GameMaker Studio to make his asset flips, despite every single one being made with GameMaker Studio. It's unclear why Anamik Majumdar has been misleading about these templated cash grabs. As usual, my recommendation is to never give money to asset flippers and construction kit copy+paste cash grabs, so don't reward this one.
Poorly optimized game. If it's not a cut scene with text or the moment you die, this game chugs along like you're underwater. I thught this would be a fun little time waster for $0.59 USD (sale price) with an easy achievement list. If the game were fixed to run at more than 10 fps it may actually be somewhat entertaining. As it is I can only suggest this for fellow achievement hunters (until the frame rate issue is resolved, and even then I'd wait for a sale).
Is this the second coming of Orange Santa? No, mainly because the meme factor isn't here. (Anamik made a fat strawberry game last year that was probably an attempted follow-up, but I haven't played it.) Where E's Pledge stands out compared to its predecessors is its level of technical competence. You get 3 different weapons, double-jumping, and visual novel cutscenes. Most games have none of those features. The problems from previous games persist, however: fixed 4:3 aspect ratio, non-rebindable controls, poorly-animated or non-animated jumping, and bouncing off of the level ceiling. The Kurosawa-esque story makes up for those issues, but they're not growing pains, they're persistent flaws in the developer's codebase that never seem to go away. With the new innovations like the lightning gun and the VN cutscenes, this game reaches a high-water mark and is worth more than the asking price of $1, but I also feel like the next game could be better if the long-standing issues are fixed and the things people (I) like such as blood, weapons, and the VN stuff, continue.
On the Simpsons, Mr. Burns actually attempts the idiom "Give a thousand monkeys a thousand type writers and soon the will write the greatest novel." Burns' monkeys get close, with a near Dickensian line, substituting 'blurst' for 'worst.' I feel like this game was coded by a thousand monkeys at a thousand keyboards, and 'blurst' best describes it. The grammar, syntax, continuity, and tense in the story are all problematic from the first word. The story is so cringe worthy that you should skip it entirely. Awful writing. The game itself is terrible, but it fakes being a good in a way that is obvious that a three year old would be able to identify. The game is full of cheap deaths, due to poorly designed control inputs and poorly designed gaming in general. Bullets barely hurt you, but come within 6 inches of a fire pit and you will die instantly. Jumping is ludicrous, with double jumping available from the get-go, but it only works about 75% of the time. The worst part comes when trying to jump at the top of the screen. Even on levels that are set in an outdoor environment, with no obstacles above your head, if you touch the top of the screen, it acts like you smashed your head on a ledge and inevitably knocks you down into an instant death pit. Enemy bullets will travel clear across the level, from the farthest reaches, causing instant death on a certain level where you need to keep an NPC safe. That overall isn't a bad thing, but your bullets DON'T DO the same thing! As soon as they leave the edge of the screen, they are gone. The control scheme is beyond ridiculous. The stupidest buttons are chosen for important actions. RB is your fire button. Not the right trigger, but the right bumper. Who thought that was a good idea??!?!??? The menu can only be navigated by the directional pad, NOT the left stick, but the player's character can only be moved by the left stick! STUPID! The level 14 boss has so many issues. The most egregious of which is that his health is much more than is indicated by the bar on screen. You empty the bar and he still isn't dead. You shoot him 5,000 more times (with RB!) and maybe he dies. Then you have to hope you can make it over several pits of death with the awful jumping mechanism. If not, instant death and try again, loser! This game has achievements, which is always a good thing, but the game can be completes 100% in an hour, and that is with the obnoxious deaths hampering you repeatedly. The best part? You can 100% the game's achievements and not finish the game! As soon as you hit level 15, the last achievement unlocks and you are done. I didn't bother playing the last level. I didn't want to play this crap-fest another second! I uninstalled at that point and removed it from my library. I feel like I should get a refund of my $1.09 on principle alone! Do not buy.
