About
It's been so long since you've last been with her, seen her... Something inside of you eats at you. The world around you is bleak and dark, but the thought of meeting her once again keeps you going.
Follow the short linear story as you fight with your own mind, your fears and worries taken form, as you search for the part of yourself you've lost.
This short adventure serves as a companion piece to vai5000 and maji*'s 2025 track of the same name, emerald, and expands on the story of the song. It builds on vai5000's prior release of oath, acting as a smaller self contained experience in the same vein.

A mostly linear narrative:
Explore a small top-down RPG world as you progress through the story of emerald, talking to mysterious characters along the way and fighting off Wraiths originating from your own mind. The main game will take you around 2 hours to complete, longer if you aim for all achievements - but you're free to sprint to the end too!
Multiple unique encounters:
Each battle is with a unique Wraith with properties and strategies specific to it - each battle a representation of that Wraiths personality and how it relates to your own feelings. Who you decide to take on might even determine how your story plays out in the end...
Hand-drawn art and animation:
A combination of custom pixel art and hand drawn designs shape the world of emerald, including segments of bespoke animation work and effects by vai5000, building on top of the style of the previous game, oath - now expanded with more animation work than ever before..

While the story of emerald is a linear adventure, taking place across a singular day, depending on what you discover and what you choose to do, your ending may change...
Please note: as a free experience, 'emerald' is intentionally not as expansive as 'oath', and a decent bit shorter. If you would like to play a longer and more fleshed out story, check out 'oath"!

nice game
No one’s paying attention, so here’s the truth: I am very much bitchless
As usual with vai500's work, and now in collaboration with Maji. A game that's visually great, with beautiful music and cutscenes, and a weird and intriguing story. But also a gameplay that's rather a nuisance to get through. It's interesting in the first 20-ish minutes, but after finishing one ending and wanting to experience more this game has to offer, you'll have to replay through most of the same stuff again and again, and it soon becomes really unpleasant. This includes a very bad fighting system, where you basically just spam one button, hoping you'll either deal critical damage or not miss, and that you'll kill the enemy before it kills you, and plenty of them have the upper hand, so you'll have to repeat the fight over and over and over until a slip of luck grants you redemption, on each playthrough. Either a save mechanic or a better fighting system would've made it much more bearable. It's a very short game, so I can't really say the gameplay is all that bad, but I can't say it's fun either. Albeit the story, the visuals and the music are worth pulling through it.

A story-focused adventure game with a bit of combat. If you've already had enough of indie games about dealing with depression/grief/etc., then you can save yourself the trouble: this is one of them, and it doesn't really do anything new or spectacular. The combat is very simple and very bad. You can only attack and defend. Defending basically wastes your turn, so you really only attack. The outcome of fights depends wholly on luck. Enemies deal a random number of damage (can be 5% of your health, can be more than 100% of your health) and your attacks can randomly miss. So you repeat fights and keep pressing "attack" until the RNG lets you win. The visuals are nice. BGM is probably good, since the game was apparently made by (a?) musician(s?). I can't tell though, because I personally don't like electronic music. It seems I'm mostly complaining, but reaching different endings was pretty fun and the game is free anyway, so...
Objectively:
6.5/10
