Decent game. A bit short, and some of the puzzle solving can be a little annoying (especially if the enemy one shots you as you try to get around them) but it's an interesting story that gets meta if you find all the secrets. I dug it. https://youtu.be/gkK_89iMO-c
This a relatively "early" review in terms of time spent with the game (I had forgotten of one particular mechanic after hitting the 20 min mark on my first playthrough, so take I'm less than 40 minutes in at the time of writing this), but also one which I believe is relatively important: the game has more to it than what it first appears, so Please don't immediately drop it. The opening of the game is kinda stereotypical in terms of zombie plots and the main character peppers f-bombs in his speech in a way which really doesn't work, but there are tons of little details, some of them connected to Em-A-Li (the previous game by the developer, a lovely short walking simulator), which elevate the overall game experience. It is is not a super-great game and I honestly could have used without some of the mechanics (the flashlight is really fiddly as to when its needed and when it even works and needs to have its batteries replaced every now and then, but there seem to be enough pickups for that not to be a huge problem), but none of them so far look like they are or will be game killers for me. Here's me hoping this keeps being enjoyable.
Alright, now I've finished part one! This game was definitely longer than Em-A-Li (which is another game by this dev that you should check out). I would still call it a one-shot - in other words, it's a good game that you can finish in one sitting, if you have the time. I finished Em-A-Li in about 30 minutes, and it looks like I finished this in about 45, though I'm getting mixed messages from the time played being shown on my page. Without revealing too much about the game itself, I can give the following tidbits of information to a potential future buyer: This game has: *Fully voice acted dialogue, with high quality recording. You wont find any mic popping during any of their lines. *A detailed, surprisingly expansive (although not so large as to be frustrating) map, with plenty to explore. *Easter eggs (just look around and see what you can find!), you may appreciate these a little more if you've played a certain other game by this dev. *Classic point-click adventure style gameplay, with an emphasis on exploration and problem solving. *A puzzle I didn't figure out because I am bad at puzzles. Maybe you can do it! I'm sure you can! This game does not have: *Cooking minigames *good neighbors *decent cellphone reception All in all, I would recommend this game if you're interested in horror pixel games, and you enjoy exploration! Try it out, if you haven't yet!
Fantastic sequel to Em-A-Li, loved the little secrets dotted throughout, pacing story and gameplay are a huge step up from the first title, the atmosphere is very well done and sucks you into the world, the voice acting whilst a little rough helps flesh out the characters, the survival elements are a nice addition and having to choose when to use the flashlight and when to conserve battery life helps build tension, would highly reccomend for how cheap it is!
Zurvival was a game that was promised to creep me out and it had kept it's promise. It's scares got me good my first play through. Positive feedback: *Crafting was introduced into the game, which help add a layer of difficulty toward completing the game. *The game had me question my decisions and caused me to hesitate about what I should do and what to make or use, thinking I'll hit a dead end. But was able to progress without issues. *Character sprites are great for both the talking heads and the over world, a big improvement from the previous game. The game has replay ability, but only to find Easter Eggs from Em-A-Li. If you weren't able to get them your first time playing through.*Hahahahahaha Only negative feedback is the delivery of Andrew's lines, they could be improved. Some sentences or words were drawn out or too slow, when they could have been quicker with harder inflections. Not all were bad, but it seemed like it was all the same tone with his lines. I hope that Yobob will continue to make more games and in greater length; building off this world or make other horror games, and continue to get my heart racing.
Small game but has better story than it's former part Em-A-Li. Still hate the lack of game settings. Have annoying dialogues and repetition of some words gets on nerves but the story is good so can let it pass. Overall I recommend it if it's on sale. Good game for time pass.
As a heads up, I received this key for free. I'm finding it difficult to judge Em-A-Zurvival having recently come from Em-A-Li. I expected this game to be a direct sequel to the first, but aside from the reappearance of Em-A-Li there seems to be almost no ties to the previous game. However, I'm going to be judging this side-by-side to the previous title, as the creator appears to be linking these games with their similar titles. Positives: - Almost every aspect of gameplay mechanic seems to be have been improved greatly from the previous release. There's more to do than just walk from point A to point B, you've got to investigate your surroundings and solve puzzles, avoid obstacles and locate crafting materials. Good stuff. - Art is improved, a lot more detail went into the world and character dialogues. - Music is still great, if similar to Em-A-Li. - Voice acting has a much greater range due to more characters being involved. Negatives: Again, I'm torn with this game. It's an obvious improvement to Em-A-Li technically, but I found myself not enjoying this game as much as the previous. That could be due to the following factors: - Characters. Unfortunately, I didn't like Andrew as the protagonist (even compared to Li in the last game who didn't speak). His voice acting, while fine, seemed rather frustrating. I think probably due to the repetitive dialogue and rather whining writing. Almost every line he speaks is either using some expletive, or is on the verge of crying. Sometimes both. - General Gameplay. See, there's a lot more to this game than the previous entry. But, I didn't enjoy it as much! Something just felt off with the crafting to me (probably due to my general frustration with not finding the right parts). Puzzle games that rely on finding a specific passcode or item in a random place with no pointers to that area, so you end up randomly searching every shelf and couch just to progress really grinds me the wrong way. Really feel like some guidance would have been helpful, especially as it was easy to get confused after a game over about what the current quest is. - Difficulty. Honestly, just felt kinda unfair sometimes. If you went down the wrong corridor at the wrong time, you were facing a near instant and unavoidable game over. I appreciated the danger, but once it happened repeatedly it just became an inconvenience. In conclusion, the game is fine but frustrating in parts. It's short and a little repetitive, would have loved to have seen a bit more of the world. A few things need to be ironed out to really polish this game. It's a recommendation from me however due to Em-A-Li. The creator appears to be creating a long, multi-game spanning narrative about Em-A-Li and her actions to find her creator. So, it's difficult to judge her presence without the entire narrative being completed. Play this game if you want to continue her story.
Oh boy here I go again. I liked the design of this one more, very well done. Less just black and more hallways with pictures and floors and walls and what-not. All of the designs worked with each other to build this world. Good level and overall design. I also liked how there were easter eggs to find. Fun additional aspect to the game. I did notice it was longer than Em-A-Li as well, so that was nice. I liked how all the lines were voiced, that was a very nice touch, although I think some of the acting could have been better. There were also some spelling mistakes, but only 1 or 2. I kind of felt like it should be a stand-alone game. It had really nothing to do with Em-A-Li, but it kept on trying to tie it in. I felt like that was weird. Other than that, it was a nice zombie apocalypse game. I don't think it was worth $7 though. Just like Em-A-Li, It either needs to be longer or cheaper. That's all.
Really fun little game, and I appreciate the voi..%(...EM'*__5A(=?0 0 0 LI 2 --- 2 --- 2 STU... WHERE IS STU?!?
Short and easy to clear. controls are straightforward, graphic is nice and whole game is smooth. Would really look forward to future projects and the continued story but seems like dev is not continuing? recommended for those who need to experience something thrilling but can't handle jumpscare. This is a good try. Apart from many curse words in MC dialogs (understand that the MC is panic but well) , the rest is overall quite enjoyable.
