EDIT: I realize that this game came out before Elsewhere, this explains a lot lol I truly wanted to enjoy this since I LOVED Elsewhere. Thing is, as a wave shooter its adequate, but when played after Elsewhere this feels so....underwhelming. Apparently there's more story but I think I will be watching a lets play for that. My issue comes mostly with the fact that Elsewhere's shooting also came with positional elements and Nightmare only has one pace (that i've found so far). Again, as a wave shooter this is adequate, it even involves puzzle elements. However, the adoration I had for Elsewhere's dodge and roll mechanics that let me go nyoom during combat made me so excited for this game, and the lack of these elements basically killed my desire to keep playing. I get it from a story perspective, Luis is some rando in the motel and James is...well, a proper bad ass. The "helpless" element while fun for a narrative purpose falls short in something that aims to be Kill Everything Possible. At least for me, this game feels heavily underwhelming and was not what I was expecting. Still though, if you're ok with Whats On The Jar shoot to survive labyrinth games, you'll probably love this. It's simple, learnable, though it felt overwhelming in not a fun way (compared to the original mechanics/play style). I'd give it a try if you're into this sort of thing, but if you're expecting combat like Elsewhere had, I'd hold off

What are you doing here. Are you lost? You should be at El Paso, Elsewhere, not this. To be brutally honest this feels like a demo you have to pay for, and it doesn't even do a good job of advertising the game it's attached to. Both the gameplay and tone are completely different from the full game, which would be fine if it was properly fleshed out but it's not. Again, it feels like a demo, and in my opinion does a poor job of selling you on the bigger and frankly better game.
El Paso, Elsewhere is a gem but, unfortunately, this is a turd. A lovingly made turd, though indisputably a turd. The guns aren't fun to use, the enemies have badly designed attacks and hit boxes, the gameplay feels half-baked, whether it's the more survival horror aspects or the wave based shooter (?), and for all the residual coolness of this game's better brother clinging to it, turd status.
i really can´t recommend this game to anyone. Running trough boring corridors, fighting boring enemies isn´t that much fun.
Go play COD Zombies instead. The "Byte Size Campaign" is just the wave based survival nonsense that every other game has, but you get to hear an annoying commentator when you move to the next arena. The response mechanics are great, the shooting is great, but the same is true in COD Zombies and the announcers there are actually nice to listen to. Also the NPCS are as fast as the player, so you can't outrun them, which matters for the first part of the "story" mode since you don't have any weapons there. I don't recommend unless you want yet another wave based survival zombie game. Also, 5$ is massively overpriced for a game that takes longer to install than it does to beat. Get it on sale.
основная игра хорошая. это ответвление гуано. первое персонаж не умеет дайвить прыгать как в оригинале. персонаж бегает как калека. враги могут зажать вас в стульях. у меня всё.
It is a demo. It is a test of El Paso Elsewhere's enemies, level art and core "loop" but in a very barebones FPS format. I was just curious. The Concept differing from Elsewhere was nice, the framing was nice. There really was soemthing there. I can say it was interesting. And as it was free with El Paso Elsewhere, it was fine... really not anything worth to anyone except maybe upand coming gamedevs to see what some test version of a game might have been.
Worth the 5 bucks for a weird if frustrating experience.
A sort of promising start degrades into a bit good boomer shooter. Achieves the opposite of its intent, unfortunately, in motivating me to get the other game. Sure that a a difference style of gameplay but why would I trust after this.
Direction during the survival mode style Nightmare chapter could have been guided a bit better with more landmarks in some of the more maze-like sections, but other than that it's a fun short experience.
