Gameplay: https://youtu.be/kdF21bOAX_0 Fun wave shooter where you have to survive against waves of mech & droids as you repair your ship. Upgrades to weapons & able to buy turrets and upgrade them. Much better than I thought it was going to be.
I would buy this game just for the swordplay. Felt like a jedi.
+ Big plus for left-hand mode + Satisfying gun mechanics + Fun gameplay + Might have replay value due to multiple possible strategies - Unfortunally you cannot have a gun in each hand to go full-Rambo - Turret icons look very similar it's a bit hard to understand which one is taking heavy damage
2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/78ECn3QuYTQ In Echoes of War you’ve crash landed on a strange planet and you need to defend against waves of alien bots, also managing resources and repairing your ship so you can escape the planet. So it’s a unique mix of wave shooter and defense strategy. The first few waves feel kind of tedious until you get decent upgrades for the turrets you build, since both your gun and the turrets start out pretty weak. But after purchasing accuracy upgrades for your turrets things really get rolling. Speaking of upgrades, I was surprised by the number and variety of upgrade options for all the weapons. You can switch between your gun and a lightsaber, but the lightsaber seems to be mostly for deflecting lasers since none of the bots got close enough for me to swing at them. This game really nails the feeling of being stranded and alone on a planet. There’s enough ambient sound to make the world feel legit, but it’s also quiet enough to feel all alone and stranded. The mix of resource management with strategic building and upgrading puts a unique spin on the wave shooter genre. And for $7 I think it’s priced just right. If you’re in the mood for LOTS of robot shooting in a sci-fi marooned setting, then check it out.
Tepid recommendation, only because the game is inexpensive. Repetitive gameplay, awkward ui, slow pace to ramp up difficulty. As wave shooters go, this is above average. Once the game gets going with multiple turrets and frantic 360 degree attacks it's pretty exciting. There just isn't much variety or depth of gameplay or any story to speak of. Hopefully the DEVs will add content over time.
Not bad for seven bucks
Fun game hope they add alot more content to the game. Kinda like space pirates meet tower defense.
NUL !
Echoes of War is a wave shooter that adds a twist to the genre by mixing resource mangement and turret placement along with shooting and lightsaber defense. You find yourself crash landed on a planet full of hostile machines. You must spend your days defending yourself from the machine threat, and using the scrap from the fighting to upgrade your resources and repair your ship. PROS -Gunplay feels good, and you can even pick enemies off in the distance before they ever reach your base if you aim right. -Can deflect enemy shots using a lightsaber. -Resource management is intense. You will be strapped for scrap most of the early waves. -Turret placement is a fun challenge, have to balance between placing them to block shots on you, and placing them so they last long enough to help in a fight. -A surprising amount of upgrades for every turret and your own personal equipment. Ties into the resource management. -Six different kind of turrets to play with. -The game has a surpisingly nice atmosphere, you really feel isolated on a deadly planet. NEUTRAL -Graphics are fine, but there isn't much style to it. -Kind of ties into graphics, but enemy variety is small. While there are a lot of "types" of enemies, they are mostly just split into sphereoid flying drones of varying types, and ground vehicles with either wheels or "spider" legs. I havn't beaten the game yet so there might be more waiting to be discovered. -Turret balance might need some tweaking. So far I have found the most success just using the basic turret and fully upgrading it. All other turrets are really expensive for the initial build, and once destroyed cost a lot to repair. So far it seems the easiest just to build a basic turret to take shots while you use your own gun and other upgraded turrets to kill enemies. This might change in the later levels though. CONS -The UI is infuritatingly slow. You have a whole bunch of menus you need to click through to do things, and you have to wait a few seconds for the transition animation. It is really annoying. It also doesn't "feel" very good to click on things in the menu. I can't tell when I have succesfully clicked on a menu icon. -The UI seems to wide for the FOV. I have to look at the very edge of my vision to see my health and turret icons. -There isn't much feedback when you take damage. You get a quick "incoming fire" alert, but not much feedback when you actually take the hit. I can't tell where the shot came from, and often I get a surprise game over because I ran out of health and didn't realize it. -Turrets do not have any identifiers on the menu. Unless you build them in a specific order, you can't tell specifically which turret it is in relation to its icon in the menu. Overall it is a great game for the price, and I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a twist on the wave shooter.
Worth a go, especially for the price.
