A Rift has opened in the Cycle of Memories. As a Watcher, it falls to you to save the World’s Memory. Divinities, primordial Guardians, and peoples scarred by war and exploitation: a vast world unfolds before you. Only you can uncover its hidden truths.

Great art design, cool idea for ability crafting but the bosses/mini bosses are insanely over tuned. They spam giant aoe's while spawning non-stop ad's ON TOP of having turrets or some form of traps all over the arena. One of the most annoying rogue-likes ive ever played.
Yet another "Hades clone with a twist" which falls very short. It's a problem when the entire game feels like a carbon copy but absolutely none of the elements are as good or better.

GFX: decent to good
VFX: one of the stronger points of the game
Music & voices: serviceable, forgettable
Story: a little tacky but not bad
Controls: (controller) decent, but need to be tighter - definitely achievable
Combat: this is where it falls apart. Combat simply doesn't feel great. There's no feedback at all, kills feel flat. Getting hit feels flat. This is make or break for the genre and needs to be the main focus.
Environments: not bad, actually. A little flat but the rooms feel pretty good actually.
Mechanics: nothing spectacular, but the spellcrafting feels mostly good. Power scaling feels slow, but that's just a balance tweak away. Having a dash and 2 attacks feels very limited though. I do not know if there are plans for more, but the game desperately needs it.
I'm interested in trying this again down the road, but the game still needs a good year+ of work as-is.

In the nicest way I can write this, this game is crap. It features one of the most interesting skill systems I've ever seen, but the game does not nail combat feel, enemy design, pacing, or moment to moment fun at all. Everything you like about Hades is missing from this game. The animations feel wrong, the enemies' attacks feel wrong, the timings are too tight for act 1 and the damage is too high, you can get chained hit and killed in a single frame, you can take damage from attacks the frame they spawn with no warning VFX or telegraphs, the progression for success feels unrewarding, and the game gatekeeps the only functional thing about it - skills - from you for far too long. Honestly, I'm not having any fun, and playing this feels like mashing my head into a wall over and over. And this is coming from a guy who 100%'d both Hades games and beat them on the hardest modes. I don't think the developers for this game really understand what makes these games fun. Such a shame too for the skill system to be wasted on this.
Alright, so, I read some of the reviews before buying - and I don't know whether or not they represent the overall negativity, but I'll be addressing what I remember. The game is not that difficult, nor punishing. It does however scale. Essentially, if you're struggling, just invest in Max HP as the healing statues scale on percentage. The spell crafting is intuitive as ♥♥♥♥. Just flop things in there and see what happens, and if nothing happens, then just swap ♥♥♥♥ around. Because you can. You're never locked into anything. There's a surprising amount of content for EA. Four zones, a massive amount of spell modifiers, and 4x4 base spells to build on. That is to say, there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of build variety. Then there's the combat itself, it's super fluid and incorporates all the spell modifiers smoothly (with the exception of the leaf sword which is jank, but it's busted so whatever). The dodge is forgiving, the enemies are reasonable, I don't know, ♥♥♥♥ just works. However, ♥♥♥♥ the spear guys. The spear guys are ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Aaaaallll this good ♥♥♥♥ said, depending on skill level (I guess) you can complete the game real fast if you're not something of a completionist. Once you kill the last boss, you are technically done. There's no NG+ or so. I am one to unlock all the spells and try a bunch of builds, but I do have friends who once they clear a full run - that's it unless incentivized or challenged otherwise. If that's you, maybe this ain't for you. PS: Please ♥♥♥♥ if you do make NG+ don't do the Hades thing where you choose what aspects of difficulty to increase. I hate it so much, Do something cooler, which I don't know what it is, I believe in you.
Enjoyed this game in demo form months ago, and am enjoying it in early access now. I love the spellcrafting as the main source of run variation, I am excited to try new spells as I unlock more. I like the art and visuals too.

Great start to an early access roguelike. It will feel very challenging and somewhat narrow at the start but every run is different in the end. My opinion for the devs: lean even more into the spellbuilding and allow us more slots and Focus to build things out. New players don't get to see how much variety there is in the game for quite a few hours. The game doesn't need to be made easier but I think it feels quite slow when starting out for now.
