Easy to learn and fun to play. Give yourself a break from war games.
Was really looking forward to playing this. Text is too small to see and can't be adjusted. Literally unplayable
Love the game, but crashes a lot. It also has problems with the graphics freaking out especially when there are islands are in the combat map.

An oldie but goldie. recommended for those who like sailing games with trade, diplomacy and combat.
This is a good old game and I had a lot of fun playing it. It's an economy/management sim with some trappings of real-time strategy. The overall goal of the map is to dominate trade routes between Europe and India and build an unmatched trade empire. Overall this game is very well done and the sim is very balanced in regards to the economy and factors needed to build a trade empire; for example, you would think that simply dominating ports and building bigger fleets is the key to winning, and surprisingly it is not; building more expensive ships and having a lot of ports increases the maintenance costs of your trade empire which causes runaway costs that ruins your cashflow and ability to trade, so the game requires maximization of trade routes to win, not just domination. The game interface is from 2009 so it does feel dated when playing it, but I stress that "dated" does not mean bad, the in-game menus and screens are intuitive and simple to use. Also, the graphics are good enough to carry the game. Crucially the naval warfare is in real-time (not turn based) and is fun; It's very much an arcade/RTS style point and click naval warfare game (not a true sim) but does contain the simpler elements of naval strategy such as types of shot, boarding, and line formations. Pros: 1 Single player campaigs are fun, the game requires you to strategize conquest, upgrades, fleet management, trade routes, and diplomacy and alliances to successfully win. 2 The game is a challenging, but not impossible (I played on normal). 3 Naval warfare is real-time and fun Cons: 1. Not stable, the game crashes a lot (likely due to such an old build on newer hardware), so SAVE often. 2 DLCs don't work: The Battle of Trafalgar DLC does not launch, it crashes every time I try to play it. 3 The game supposedly has a pirate DLC (which I paid for) but in the game menus there is no option to play the pirate DLC, there also is no pirate campaign; so I am not seeing how I can play this DLC. 4 No loans, if your trade empire hits negative cash you are in real trouble and will likely have to reload several years back. 5 The diplomacy with other nations gets a bit old and formulaic later in the game, once you get big and powerful everybody declares war on you and then after about 5 years they declare peace, then repeat again. Overall the game plays like a much simpler version of Port Royale, the trade routes in this game are much simpler as you can only set automatic trade routes between two ports and all the trade is handled by the computer AI (they will buy the max amount of the highest profit item in each port). Overall this is both a pro and a con because the simpler trade setup makes it easier to understand and play the game, but at the same time takes away the complex trade route customization that you get in the Port Royale titles. Overall I would say this game is an 8 out of 10. Buy it if on sale for less than $15, stay away from the DLCs though, they do not work. If you want both the base game and all the DLCs working, you can get it at www.topwareshop.com
Love this game
To repeat the comments of others, the game crashes after 15 years (10% of the campaign length). Unless that is fixed the game is broken.
Still leanring to play but so far I would recommend to any one interested in the Age of Sail. Nice sail trading game on a strategic level with ship battles on a tactical level.
Game is quite enjoyable however the stability of the game really sucks. It randomly gets stuck and then you have to kill the game. Also several times I got an error during saving so you loose a save and have to start from an older one. Pretty annoying.
