Cheap and easy to get.
This is a relatively simple puzzle/combat game. It is good enough for what it is.
A really good and entertaining game for a very modest price.
Dungeons of Hell is a fast paced tactical Rogue game where you battle armies of demons on dungeon floors which get harder and harder as you get closer to the boss of that specific hell. There is no story but the gameplay is really good. You will dive in, die and then find a new strategy and do much better every time, resulting in ultimately defeating the lords of hell. I really liked how fluid this game is and that you progress quickly from level to level, get new abilities quickly and it always gets more challenging so you always need to pay attention, don't get bored and surprisingly realize that it only took a few minutes. This a true Rogue game. Every time you die, that's it, that's the end. You don't get currency or levels or anything BUT almost every time a miracle happens and you yourself discover a new strategy, pattern, weakness and will come to this game not knowing anything and then feel like you mastered it. When I first fought the first lord of hell he toasted me and then once more and then I left him with one life bar thinking it was impossible. Then I took a break, reorganized my strategy and defeated him spectacularly and very satisfyingly with most of my life intact. It is really satisfying to understand the game and get to pull the really good moves. It's actually not in game-skill based since skills help out just a bit to actually get you to understand and play the game better. You will need them to progress but as the game gets harder you will have to do without them, start of from harder areas with just your personal knowledge. What impressed me most about this game is that you get a varied amount of skill choices to mix for your strategy and unlike most game in this genre, none of them are useless, they are all AWESOME and I really had trouble picking a combination and sticking with it because I felt like trying something else every time and every time I did something spectacular happened. I also liked that enemies have the same adaptive AI as they did in Expect the Unexpected. They actually coordinate with each other and will fight one way when alone and differently when together with other troops. For example If a ranged demon figths alongside melee demons, the melee demons will try to squeze you in while the ranged demon gets a good shot. If the same demon fights together with another ranged demon, they will play check-mate with you, getting you into a position where they either both fire at you or you either have to move into one's firing area.
Bottom line
It has good graphics, good content for its scope, great gameplay and a good price. I got it on Steam for 1.19 and it's frequently discounted. I recommend it to anyone wanting a fun game where you also have to think and you are satisfied for performing a good strategy. Pay attention to the trailers-what you see is what you get, this is all the game is, a good dungeon fighter that gets harder until you finish it but nothing more. If you like it and want something a bit longer, this game is based on Expect the Unexpected, the same company's previous TBS fantasy game which I also recommend as an interesting title to have fun with and play for a few hours. bom pra passar o tempo >D
It''s a very nice approach of roguelike. The strategy is nice, the skill sets and invetory are extra fun to deal with, and for sure will keep your attention for hours! If you liked Expect the unnexpected, you are gona love dungeons of hell!!
Got my $1.01 (-70%) worth in one sitting. Worth it.
Dungeons of Hell, developed and published by GoldenGod Games, is an indie dungeon-crawling RPG that centers on tactical combat, character progression, and a descent into increasingly dangerous infernal depths. Framed within a classic dark fantasy premise, the game casts players as a lone hero venturing through demon-infested labyrinths with the ultimate goal of confronting powerful infernal entities. Rather than relying on expansive storytelling or cinematic presentation, it builds its identity around methodical combat encounters and incremental growth within a hostile underworld setting. At its core, Dungeons of Hell blends elements of roguelike design with traditional RPG progression systems. Players explore dungeon floors filled with enemies, traps, and loot opportunities, carefully weighing each decision before moving forward. Combat emphasizes strategic planning over reflex-based action. Positioning, skill usage, and resource management all factor into survival, especially as enemies become stronger and more numerous in deeper levels. Early encounters serve as learning experiences, but later stages demand careful preparation and optimized builds to overcome increasingly punishing threats. Character progression forms the backbone of the experience. As players defeat demons and complete dungeon runs, they gain experience points and acquire improved gear. Equipment upgrades and skill unlocks provide tangible power increases, encouraging experimentation with different builds and strategies. The sense of advancement is gradual but consistent, rewarding persistence and careful planning. This loop of venture, battle, upgrade, and return creates a rhythm that defines the game’s pacing. Enemy design leans heavily into classic demonic archetypes, culminating in confrontations with powerful bosses that serve as major progression milestones. These encounters test mastery of the game’s systems, requiring efficient ability management and tactical awareness. While the overall enemy variety may not be extensive compared to larger RPGs, the scaling difficulty ensures that even familiar foes remain threatening as the game advances. Visually, Dungeons of Hell adopts a retro-inspired aesthetic that favors clarity and atmosphere over detailed realism. The dungeon environments are dark and moody, reinforcing the infernal theme without overwhelming players with visual clutter. Character models and enemy sprites are functional and readable, allowing players to focus on combat mechanics. The soundtrack and sound effects contribute to the ominous tone, though they remain understated rather than dramatic. One of the game’s defining traits is its focused scope. It does not attempt to build a sprawling open world or intricate branching narrative. Instead, it concentrates on delivering a tight dungeon-crawling experience built around challenge and progression. This contained design helps maintain a clear gameplay identity but may feel repetitive for players seeking narrative depth or environmental variety. The repetition inherent in dungeon-based progression is mitigated somewhat by incremental difficulty increases and the satisfaction of unlocking new abilities. Replayability is supported through achievement systems and the inherent variability of dungeon encounters. Players motivated by completion goals or build experimentation can find reasons to revisit earlier stages and refine their strategies. However, the longevity of the experience depends largely on how much players enjoy its core tactical loop rather than on expansive content variety. Overall, Dungeons of Hell presents a focused and straightforward take on dungeon-crawling RPG design. It offers methodical combat, steady character growth, and a consistent dark fantasy atmosphere within a compact indie framework. While it does not push the genre forward with innovative mechanics or expansive storytelling, it delivers a cohesive and challenging experience for players who appreciate strategic encounters and gradual progression through hostile territory. Do you like roguelikes? Do you like strategy rpgs, even if you only control one guy? If so buy this game, it's stupidly cheap, it has simple mechanics yet a surprising amount of depth and it's fun, espiecally if you like games like Into the breach. Even for the regular price this game is cheap, but for the absurd price of 59p get it if you like roguelikes even a little bit. Just under 4 hours and I beat Baal which feels good, but I've got 3 more dungeons with their own demonlords to slay. I've easily got my moneys worth or even the full price by now
