The game has a very cute design and theme to it. While my initial recommendation remains unchanged, I would like to see some more polish. I am happy and thankful the dev was so quick to respond to a review for their game and look forward to seeing what future changes brings for this game. I will likely wait for quite a bit more to be added before I give it another shot. --- Response to Dev Being a developer my self I of course mean no harm in my criticism. And that is the point of the review process, if the items above were addressed I'd be happy to remove them from my critique. Tho I no longer have the game to test my self, I'll likely wait until some more updates come out before I give it another shot and update my review with anything I find at that time. [Potentially outdated items] [Dev states this has been addressed] The controls; Horrible. You have to hold D to go right, it isn't instant. Hitting escape takes you to the pause menu, hitting it again does nothing. Hitting escape doesn't close out in game menus either.
Before I played Dungeon Island, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
This game has a lot of merit behind it, such as the water platforms mechanic and the archipelagic setting, but the controls are abysmal and the game is really unpolished and buggy. Controls are a fundamental component to a game, and if they lack in ease of use, smoothness and flow then they can easily turn someone like myself away from it. The controls feel like I'm wrangling movement against the character, like pulling a dog on a leash to the vet. In itself, only 4 directions of movement aren't a bad thing, but when you pair it with an action game format and tell me to fight monsters, while also not giving me an option to automatically sprint is when I have an issue with it. The pause between stopping and moving are also grating to the flow of the game. It would be a lot better if the character just started moving as soon as you pressed the button. I found myself constantly using wrong tools on things like rocks despite pressing the buttons to switch to those tools. I'd expect my choice of tool to be saved when I do something like chop down a tree, but the player character just feels the need to dull his blade on a boulder despite hitting it once with a pickaxe. Make it more obvious as to what tool I have currently selected. Going through the crafting menu feels like a chore because it's really bloated. There's no search feature nor organized tabs to cut down on the bloat. You should really make the crafting menu smaller or add multiple categories that you can filter out e.g components, tools, buildings, furniture, etc. Attacking enemies feels like a chore because of the aforementioned bad movement. You can only attack in one square ahead of you, and the monsters' movement exceeds your laggy movement and attacks. Try to make swings arc in an area to make it easier to deal damage to monsters. Being constantly assaulted by enemies while trying to craft or study the map was also greatly unneeded. If you added a feature that let you automatically pause while browsing menus, or reduced enemy aggro range so they wouldn't bumrush you while you're going through the menus, that would be beneficial. I think if you took the time to iron out the major flaws in this game, like the really bad controls, and added more content that was enjoyable to play then you'd have a solid game under your belt.
No sorry. i play a lot of games like this and i like them on the whole. This is not one of them i like. opening your bag and doing things can get you killed and half the time you don't know what your doing . So i think i will give this a miss
