Droste Effect

Ho scoperto questo gioco per caso, spulciando la lista dei miei consigliati e sono rimasta piacevolmente sorpresa. E' un horror rpg che richiama titoli come IB, Yume Nikki e co. con l'esplorazione e la risoluzione degli enigmi come punto cardine del gameplay. La storia è molto interessante prima di questo gioco non sapevo cosa fosse l'effetto Droste, o meglio non sapevo che si chiamasse così. Il gioco è abbastanza lineare e una volta capito il trucchetto per procedere nei vari capitoli si va abbastanza spediti, sono rimasta bloccata solo nel secondo capitolo per una sciocchezza, avevo esaminato tutto tranne una certa cosina, quindi consiglio personale spammate il tasto per esaminare su ogni cosa! Enigmi non banali, quello dei colori mi ha fatto impazzire, ho riempito due pagine di agenda per venirne a capo, complimenti! Effetti sonori e grafica nella norma per un gioco con RPG Maker. In un paio d'ore si finisce, compreso di tutti i finali. [b]Pubblicizzatelo di più perchè è davvero un piccolo tesoro ♥[/b]

RPG Maker strikes again! Chimeraland is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. Notably the developer here couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make an RPG... and that's the only thing RPG Maker can do properly... except it's not even very good for making RPGs. Instead, we have a rather godawfully bad 2D retro pixel "adventure" game based around the developers waifu/imaginary girlfriend, and not really that much to do with the titular "Droste Effect". And if you've read this far into the review (really, the bit where I mention RPG Maker should be enough to turn away any sensible gamer from this product), the Droste Effect is the artistic effect of recursion, like if you had a box of oatmeal with a picture of someone holding that box of oatmeal on it, and on the box of oatmeal is, you know, the picture of the person holding the box, and so on until you basically can't make out the detail. Which is kind of impossible if your game is pixelcrap and made out of assets you stole from RPG Maker and are pretending are your own work. The game is free, which means this isn't some kind of cash grab or a scam, but the quality is so deplorably low this is just polluting the Steam store, which in itself is harmful. This pollution is taking up visiblity and marketing space from games that were developed by sincere developrs who did the right thing and made real, genuine games instead of RPG Maker asset flips, and it makes it harder for those games to find an audience. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuine games, too. It's impossible to recommend this to gamers. Gamers who want a good retro JRPG experience would be better off playing the originals, like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger.

I was casually browsing through new free indie games as i stumbled across this little gem. The storyline was actually interesting to follow through to the end and the game told you just enough for you to know what to do, without making it to easy. Exploring the map, testing out ideas you have and reading information is rewarding and will probably help you solving the puzzles. I dont even know why this game is for free, it could easily be sold for like 5, maybe even 10 euros and would still be worth to play. Even though the game is pretty short, i had a lot of fun playing it and can definitely recommend it for people who are looking for a short 2D story and puzzling game.

Drost Effect is a love letter to horror RPG Maker games enthusiasts. This project is developed by just 2 people, which is kinda insane to be honest: the pixel art and the animations are all self-made, the attention to details and the interactions with the environment are something that I genuinely appreciated, especially because these aren't very common qualities among the horror RPGmaker games. The story is intriguing and the puzzles are very challenging, sometimes a little too much but the team provided a longplay in case you end up stuck (https://youtu.be/gjORG_2FxUk?si=19-EG3CJyL2rT5t_). If you like games with dreamy atmospheres such as Yume Nikki, Lisa The First and To The Moon this is your jam. This game is free, but it definitely would be worth paying for.
