A great game! The atmosphere is very well done, thanks in particular to the amazing soundtrack.
Moin Freunde!
I enjoyed the game, really great. I would like to see all the endings.
Great indie game so far, especially if you like 16 bit style RPG's like Earthbound and Undertale specifically. I still have a way to go, but the story and pacing are great so far, the audio in general is wonderful, and the art and controls are good also. It's just a nice cozy game to play.
I finally got around to beating the game. I was one of the beta testers for this game. I was glad to see the final production of this game. Even though I do like this game and even recommend it, I do notice some of its flaws. and I'm gonna relate my experience with this game. Combat - I decided to play this game on the hardest difficulty, that being nightmare. I usually like to play my games on the hardest to give myself the best experience. I would say for this game, it is one of its weaker elements. I admit, this is a story/puzzle driven game, and the combat while the core gameplay is satisfying and engaging, it was extremely frustrating. Some attacks would be downright impossible to avoid. Sometimes unfair even. Just play the game on Dream Mode. At least I can say I successfully was able to beat the game, but holy crap, not worth the struggle at all. I won't deduct points for that though since everyones experience is different. Story - I would say this is the main element that this game has going for it. I'll just focus on the story and talk about the other stuff later on. It's good. Not perfect. I think it could've done things differently or make choices that would enhance the plot. It felt like a lot of the things in the game were happening for the sake of it happening. Especially the supporting characters. I wish we could've seen more character development with the essential characters. But the BIG thing that helps this game were the multiple endings. That I wasn't even expecting and his definitely welcomed. That adds some depth. In fact my biggest concern for the story was the theme, and I'll talk about that more in the next section. Theme - Now this is just me assuming based on my own interpretation of the story. So this will move on to SPOILERS so please don't read this unless you wanna know for sure, then again this is just my thoughts. In whatever ending you decide to get, it is very apparent that Theo and Louise have died. Even if there was a chance that Theo survived, he is in a long coma, with L'Ankou saying his death is inevitable anyways. So since all of this was basically Theo's slowly realizing that he has died and won't accept that, I think the theme of this game is how we perceive the afterlife, and what sort of legacy we leave behind. The decisions we made before were able to change the present in the game. The choices we make reflect what ending we get, despite us now knowing it was only Theo dreaming (in his coma). I personally think all games should have a theme to leave something thoughtful to the player. And I see potential for a possible sequel or extension of the story based on what we got. Dialog - This was both very weird, and at least to me kinda weak. I find it very weird that Louise and Theo both being very young, don't sound their age. At least to me. I know it would be weird to sound or speak like a child, and would probably be very annoying, but knowing how old they are and the way they speak, really felt weird the choice of words they use. ALSO BRO the biggest problem was just the pacing between story and dialog. One moment Theo is worried about Louise trying to find her and then the next he's just like oh hello nice to meet you or where were you? I thought you were behind me? Very weird mixed dialog based on what's happening in the story. No Guide - This is both a feature I really like and really find stupid. Don't get me wrong. I hate handholding in video games. And I love the idea that I solve problems for myself. But holy crap, this game takes it too far. Literally my biggest problem with this, was how we need to run away from this enemy, and everyone was like oh my goodness we need to the Church! Ok where's the Church? You make it sound very important and we gotta make haste. But you don't tell me where it is? Really? And then the Church is locked and we need to find another way inside and I spent like an hour tryna find the way and THIS FOOL SAYS " Oh yeah I'd knew you'd find it." SO YOU KNEW AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME? Bro pack it up you got me effed on that I'm sorry. Valid crashout tbh. Puzzles - I'm not a big puzzle guy, but they were fine. Nothing revolutionary except maybe one cool one about lights. They're a lot of them, so maybe if you like them, you'll find them here with this game. Music - Not bad. I think there's not many to choose from. But the ones that are in the game fit the theme and levels very well. Especially at the end of the game. Nothing that will blow you outta your mind. But some are noticeable. Worldbuilding - This is very strong and one of the things I loooove doing in games. Literally almost everything is interactable. Does it serve a purpose sometimes no. But the fact that I can walk up to it and get dialog from it sooo cool. It's so in depth. Very happy with the exploration. Why do I recommend this game - You'd think with everything I've said, I wouldn't recommend this game. The story isn't perfect, combat depends on what difficulty you play on (Just please no nightmare) dialog is weird, it may feel like a mid experience. But the overall experience I do think is fair. I don't think this game is for everyone. If you're just passing by seeing this comment and think about trying this game, ehhhh I dunno if I could I'll be honest. But for those that do appreciate and support Indie game devs and especially with a thoughtful ending to the game, I think that alone is worth it. I personally wanna see more from this game. It isn't all there, but the developer sees the small issues and has made improvements and patches to make a better experience. I personally got 2 out of the 3 endings, and I would go and get the other one, but I don't really wanna deal with everything again, even if I were to speedrun the game in like 7 or 8 hours. But I hope this review helps both the developer and those who wanna think about making the purchase.
I haven’t been able to play much yet due to a very busy schedule in my personal life, but I can already tell this game was a labor of love from what I have been able to play
Empfehlung geht raus!
A really good game ! I will do some fanart of it !
very fun. I've only one ending so far.
