Game was beautiful and great till Sylvando shows up, he's completely unbearable and if he's in the rest of the game i probably wont finish it. i love dragon quest to so it kinda hurts, but how did we go from characters you cant wait for what they'll say next like Yangus in 8 to characters that are such obnoxious freaks like Sylvando who every time he opens his mouth i feel the need to skip the cutscene or punch the screen. Its not even just Sylvando being a fruit that makes it bad, all the characters feel shallow and less real due to most of them feeling like caricatures of specific stereotypes. Look I'm a big DQ fan, I have replayed DQ8 like 5 times (no, not the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 3DS version) since it's launch in 2005 and all the others including spin offs like Torneko: The Last Hope at least once but for the first time i most likely wont finish a DQ game because they felt the need to add the gay freak, just sad and very disappointing. and while there's been flamboyant characters in the past they were never part of your main party so you only had to listen to them maybe once or twice.
Can't get enough of this game even after owning it on 3 different systems.

I don't think this game is bad. I may come back and complete it some day. I ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted experience. That is actually why I am NOT recommending the game because it isn't to my taste. I just like darker and more serious games. None of the characters here are that interesting to me because the game is kind of childish. I don't think there's anything wrong with that but if anyone is like me they should know it doesn't get mature in any way. This is a classic hero's journey that's cartoony and silly. I love cartoony and silly, too, but make it edgy lol So in the end here's the verdict: game too happy waaah I no like lol 7/10 (but it's probably a 10/10 if you like happy stuff!)
Love it except the gay stuff
This game is massive. I know DQ games has a lot of content but i didn't expect it to be this massive especially its not an open world game. If you're that type of gamer that values hours of content and love traditional turn based JRPG. this is for you. This is my 2nd Dragon Quest after the memorable DQ8. I was expecting great things from this but i have a mixed feeling about this. - WARNING: Contains some spoliers - I played this game after i finished Disco Elysium because i want a story that is little bit light hearted plot in a colorful world oh boy i was wrong. This game is surprisingly depressing than most JRPGs i've played. The game features a protagonist that is deemed as chosen one. As you move progress through the story, you realize that there are a lot of things were done and happened so that you can push through the plot. I don't want to spoil more but its a little bit deeper than good one vanquising evil one. There are multiple twists in the story. The only issue i have in the story is, it is super slow and a slog in the first 20 hours. I almost dropped this game tbh. But once i reached a certain plot point, man i cannot stopped playing. I even stopped playing the side quests at the end since ireally want to see the conclusion of the story. but i repeat, you have to pass through slow and boring at the first 10-20 hours or so. The only thing that motivates me playing at the first part is the characters. The party members are interesting. Love the banters and their back story. Graphics wise. Its good for a PS4/switch type of game. So set your expectations right and don't expect FFVII Remake type of graphics. Its colorful and akira toriyama arts style still slaps in 2026 Gameplay. Well people and reviewers love to point out that this is a traditional turn based JRPG. Looks can be deceiving because this game has deep turn based mechanics. It's not as fancy as persona games but it requires some thinking and strategy (especially if you're playing in draconian modes), You can have multiple builts and combination. The system will not bore you at all. BUT, it is not perfect though, game is quite easy, you will be overleveled as soon as you start to grind. For veteran JRPG players i think draconian mode and make enemies stronger will make the game experience more exciting. Another downside for this game is it involves a lot of backtraking i mean a lot. I was forced to visit an area 4 times and see those surroundings again. Enemies though are different. /Spoilers End This game doesn't have random encounter in 3d mode. All enemies can be seen, so you can plan things accordingly and not get frustrated bceause you keep running into battles LOL. Speaking of 3d mode, there is another feature for this edition is 2d mode, which you can play the full game in 2d. But since i started my DQ experience in DQ8, i didn't bother playing this game. ALthough there is side content called tickington, where you have access to all worlds of mainline Dragon quest and try to help out the characters in those worlds. It might be a nostalgic dream for veteran players of DQ but for me. I can only relate to DQ8 content. In conclusion, It is one of the memorable JRPGs that i've experienced and DQ formula still has its own charm. Incredible work. A must have for traditional turn based JRPG fan with patience. I can't blame you if you dropped the game in the first hours. i almost did. But i'm glad that i didn't.
