Pretty dissappointed with this game. I raraely write negative reviews for games I get on steam but there's an obvious lack of depth as regards strategy and what simulation fans would call "tactics." To be clear, you cannot even coach your team on how often they should help on defense or if/when they should switch on screens. You can't assign roles to different players like you can in many other sports sims, and the amount of nuance there is regarding offensive and defensive schemes is. . . negligible. This game is essentially a roster builder. Roster builders are fine if that's your thing but it's not worth this sort of price tag.
If you get into it, it's good
This is the best one in the series. Has a few inconsequential bugs, and the gui is a clickfest. I still wonder if the designer plays his games beyond a few hours, because if he did he'd get frustrated by the ridiculous amount of clicking a user has to do just for simple navigation. The top menu disappears when viewing left menu items, which is just plain dumb. Actionable menu items are scattered all over the place, and informative read-only items are likewise scattered all over the place. How about grouping actionable menu items together and read only items together separately? All the hallmarks of an amateur designer. The lack of individual practice plans for players remain absent in this edition. The only options are to redistribute shot choices and study hall. No passing or ball handling practice drills, No running or weight training to improve stamina, matchup comparisons, or blocking out on rebounds. All you get is: Shoot more 3s and go study for a week. Laughable. Player growth models are non-existent. All you get to improve is offensive and defensive sets over 4 years. Instead the designer has opted to reveal accuracy of player's skill ratings over time. wow! lazy programming. Boys grow into men from Age 17 to 22, but not in this game. They are 1 height and weight with no physical growth, nor skill growth. Also, the AI cheats, but it doesn't hurt the game. But beware. I've seen a recruit ranked 1800 on an AI team with better ratings than my 5 star recruit. Maybe it is there for balance. Who knows what the designer is thinking. In one AI sim'd game, I saw a player shoot 2 for 3 with 2 fouls in 1 minute played. LOL Not impossible, but wow, how unlikely is that? Thumbs up because it is the best edition in the series, but still has flaws in logic and design.
