I'm only here for the single player gameplay: - Uninspired level design with the flattest, most boring textures and environments. - Craptacular AI - Weird gameplay mechanics (Why do weapons forcibly reload when reloading isn't even a controllable thing?) - Why do bullets travel slower than my grandma at the wheel on Sunday, heading to church? Honestly, wtf is the point? Other games like "WRATH: Aeon of Ruin" do old-school FPSs justice.
I really like Doombringer. I think the best way to describe it really is like a mix of Quake, Quake II, and Quake III. In my opinion the art style and theme of the game grows on you the more you play. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who like fast retro fps games. You should realize that Doombringer has nothing really modern in it though, no upgrades, fancy movement, special stuff like flashlights or interactivity with the environment (except doors / switches / buttons) and whatnot, It really (except for the graphics) seems like it could have come out of the late 90's and doesn't advance itself beyond anything like say Quake. I think the story fits too - simple and brief but well put together. The only complaint I really have is the boss fight. Idk if its just me, but that boss killed me like 20 times it felt almost impossible even after I realized how you need to beat him. I think he should have a little less heath (maybe he does on lower difficulties) or something because it was the only part of the game I found really to be too difficult. If you're reading this than you are probably interested in retro fps games and in that case you should get this game right now as it is among the best available imo. I can't wait for the next episode, The release date makes me sad but at least they're being realistic with us.
There is no reason not to try the free multiplayer, this is the definition of a tight game! Want to know even more check this review: https://youtu.be/bVQX8TTSVoM
Played a few levels and was bored to tears. The multiplayer looks bonkers good, I've seen it so many times on Shaftastic but like a lot of AFPS, I can't just get on and play, at least in my area. There's very few players, and you basically have to grovel on the discord for a duel from what I've seen. Really disappointed, I want this game to be good and will still definitely play the MP if it gets bigger. Warsow, Quake Live, whatever flavour of Quake I, these will all get you a decent match quick. The benefit that this game should have is an interesting campaign, but it's not nearly as good as Quake, or DUSK or other titles with mixes of SP and MP.
Satisfying gameplay and very welcoming community.
It's clear to me that this game's had a lot of passion put into this project. After having played many a late night FFA and Duel in the discord, it's really kept me with the game through it's small community. Doombringer has it's own flavour of unique movement tech compared to other AFPS games, it feels a bit more floaty and a glide of the mouse really sends you flying forward. It's honestly not the prettiest game but it doesn't need to be. I think this is a really solid multiplayer game at it's core, though you will need to join the discord for when multiplayer sessions are happening. The feel of all the weapons are really punchy and satisfying with it's metal clanking hit sounds and meaty gib sound effects. I've played a lot of matches though the dedicated servers and game feels very buttery smooth with no lag or connection issues. I think one thing this game does right is having you choose a player config the moment you start the game for the first time, basically you spend less time in the settings so you can get to playing the game faster. If you're already familiar with AFPS games I'd say give it a try, there is a bit of a learning curve so don't feel too bad about losing :)
WAY TOO ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UNDERRATED WTF BRO this is the quake 3 singleplayer we never got and this is 120x more brutal than any quake game.
A very fast paced game which rewards skill, the opposite of CS:GO
It is a good game but it gets a little too hard in some scenarios.
Gave up after 6 minutes. Thought this would be a great DOOM alternative, but I wasn't impressed at all. The character moves as if he's constantly slipping on banana peels (or jam) and turns very awkwardly. In the first level you can only use the melee so you're completely overpowered. If you're looking for a frustrating FPS go for it, not my cup of tea though.
