My heart goes out to all those people laid of from Id. No matter where you stand on the design of the Nu DOOM game's, it is a sad day for us all. I hope all those who worked on games from this wonderful trilogy can get a job in the industry again, they deserve it. Id Software is perhaps one of the last modern AAA studios that actually gave a ♥♥♥♥ about delivering good product that is fun to play. DOOM 2016, DOOM Eternal and DOOM The Dark Ages are masterpieces each. IdTech is one of if not the best engine we have in the industry, and it's a shame that after so many years after acquisition, Microslop didn't utilize it nearly as much as they could, instead firing plenty of people who have been working with it for decades, effectively throwing that knowledge away, as the latest of the IdTech versions never were licensed to the general public, and might never be. I hope what is left of the studio can pull through, but in reality, it look's like they are being set up for closure a few years down the line, and if we see Id game on UE 5... Yeah. Sh0t dead. Do not boycott this, or any other game in the franchise. This great people do not deserve you're ire. It is Microslop who do. This game is great. Buy it. Play it. Buy the others, enjoy them, because all this games were made with great care and love for the genre, and it shows. Thank you, Id.
rip and tear.
More platforming than a modern Sonic game, jesus
The game is highly optimized, but that’s where the praise ends. The constant jumping around is incredibly annoying, and there are too many gadgets. The gameplay is forced into a rigid framework—meaning that, due to the many gadgets and the weaknesses of the different enemy types, every room requires you to follow a strict, formulaic approach, especially on higher difficulty levels. Players are given absolutely no freedom to choose their own style. The rhythm and the way you’re constantly forced to use weapons and gadgets in the same way in every room to eliminate enemies in the same sequence over and over again is reminiscent of Guitar Hero—with the difference that you have to play the same song over and over. Between rooms, the game gets annoying with ridiculous Super Mario-style platforming. DOOM 2016 and Dark Ages are significantly better.
Beautiful
It's just not hitting it for me. It feels more like an ammo management simulator than Doom. The most disapointing thing was making his punch worthless. It was actually a viable weapon in Doom 2016, in Eternal it literally does 1 point of damage (unless you built up glory kills but that's beside the point) It doesn't hit for me like Doom did. It's missing that feel of power and destruction, as if their only way to make the game harder was by giving you less ammo. Perhaps it gets better, but 4 hours in and I'm not looking forward to it, unlike in Doom 2016 where I couldn't quit playing.
