Trapped in a maze with a beast, you must find five keys and their door to escape. The monster can only smell and hear you, but as long as it hasn't fully caught your scent, you can move freely. Don't Hide offers a horror experience where you're forced to manage the monster and explore the surroundings. Nothing is easy to find, as you'll always be surrounded by dreadful darkness. You'll be left searching for five barely illuminated keys, all scattered around the maze. However, your time is limited, as the creature trapped in the maze with you will will eventually catch your scent. Be sure to run away when close, and if it hasn't fully caught your scent, hide to get it off your tracks. Don't Hide offers 6 different levels, all with varying difficulty and predetermined initial key, object, and exit door locations. A 3 star system will help rank your performance in each room. At least one star is required to progress to the next room. Developed in Godot, this game was a side project of mine that I learned along with Godot. Updates may proceed the release with more levels, objects, or features. Its more than likely that I will release balance changes as well as more and more people play the game and test out the ranking system as well as the minor and major time (scent) limits. HO HO HO PANDA=D

"Don't Hide" is a simple tech demo of a game, a basic 2D top down retro pixel (ugh) maze exploration where you're in the dark... collect the keys, avoid the monster, find the exit, rinse and repeat. This would have been considered a really phenomenal game... in 1987. Unfortunately, it is not 1987. This was published in 2022 alongside Elden Ring, Stray, and A Plague Tale: Requiem. And, apparently, the developers thought this was on par with those. I don't agree. What do you do in the game? It really is just a matter of moving around, avoiding being detected by the monster, collecting the keys, and leaving. The best part about this game is when you uninstall it. The lack of customizable controls is a significant drawback. This decision makes the game potentially unplayable for gamers with physical disabilities, left-handed players, or those using non-QWERTY keyboard layouts like AZERTY. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Pass on this one. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time.
very nice game, it trully has a horror element due to the lack of visual capability and the act that the monster will chase you down and you are getting blocked by the obstacles as you are THIS close to the exit is trully an adrenalin pumping experience

not sure how it ended up in my library but it is fun i think but
Full playthrough here: https://youtu.be/9B8IrNp-IsU It's a pretty alright game it's a bit bare bones, but the monster is cute and surprise you sometimes. The smell-o-meter is a neat touch as well, but I really wish the monster didn't move the boxes it no lie blocked me from beating the stage. You can also get glitched by boxes and stuck if you push into them the wrong way. It's definitely beatable though I wish there was some sort of ending or some other type of other game play to mix it up since the game does get a bit repetitive at times.
Before I played Don't Hide, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
