Reviews
So, as another reviewer angrily pointed out, these are not really choose-your-own-adventure games. The author has written a story which has some slight variations to it that have no effect beyond one or two pages of content (or at least, no major ones that I've found) and some gain or loss of points, and your goal is to read the clues in the story to choose the options that give you the most points. (and avoid death) This story has notably more chapters (which serve as checkpoints) than Wizard's Choice, making it less frustrating to die and need to backtrack. But, THE STORY IS GOOD! It's hard to measure in terms of pages, but there is at least as much story here as your typical 200 page paperback, and it's cheaper, too. So, if you like fantasy books in the D&D style (like forgotten realms or dragonlance) then by all means, buy this book. er, game. The game aspect really acts like miniature mystery solving as you read the story; the narrative almost always gives you the hints you need to make the right choice, like mentioning that someone is immune to fire and then later giving you an option of turning into a dragon to fight them, which ends in failure because they were immune to dragon breath. I find this fun. I guess one other reviewer didn't. One possible detraction, this story is written toward a male audience, moreso than Wizard's Choice. It has disclaimers at the start of each chapter saying things like "This chapter contains sexual themes, violence " etc etc but there is no way to skip a chapter or opt out of the possibly objectionable parts of the story, so those disclaimers really ought to be on the game as a whole.
These "DnD gamebooks" are garbage. Instead of "Choose Your Own Adventure" it's "Guess the one correct path the author made" as you stumble through this plot that is so linear it might as well be an amusement park ride. The ONLY reason I am not more upset is that they are cheap. There are authors whose games are MUCH better than this tripe. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL. Never again.
here goes the first review ig, don't mind my typos. this game existed on mobile for a couple years now, under the name "rogue's choice" and is free to play there. in order to progress on the mobile version, you have to watch some ads here and there but it's not that invasive as far as mobile game standarts go. so, if this is your first time seeing this game, you can go and play the mobile version to see if you are going to like it. if you are familiar with the mobile version, and wondering if you should buy this or not, here is my commentary: the game seems playable. it is very bare bones as of me writing this and the game is not listed as early access so we probably wont see many updates and improvements. but since the file size is not big, you can just install it and see for yourself if it bothers you so do i recommend this game? yes. why? because the price is cheap and the story is good. (as far as i remember from my time playing it in the past) what i would like to see added into the game: 1. dark mode. we already have this on a free mobile version of this game but not here. come on now. 2. ability to disable the illustrations. they are a nice addition but they may not match the imagination of people and break the immersion. 3. a way to go full screen with the text. currently half of my screen is filled by nothing. very annoying imo 4. more music tracks and options. at this point it is better to have it off. the one looping at the start gets boring really quickly and it doesnt really match the situations that's about it, have fun.
Pretty good game with interesting story and good ambient music. One minus - can't copy text from game window for translation. But still, I recommend it!
I played Wizard's Choice through to completion and was totally wowed by it so I went into Rogue's Choice with huge expectations. The writing's possibly not as strong as the prequel but the story and characters are still excellent, it's a fun ride. Rogue's Choice is a very different experience to Wizard's choice. It's a much more modern, cliche dungeon crawl experience. Which isn't bad, just different. Still has a great story but much lighter-hearted. Hey All, i just wanted to let you all know how awesome I found this game to be. "DnD Adventure: Rogue's Choice" is a choose-your-own-adventure style visual novel with many choices (obviously), set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. I expected very little from this game, especially with the low price point, but what I got was something else entirely! 17 hours of great, page-turning content, an amazing story that starts out small and ends up being epic, plenty of choices and plenty of chances to end your character's journey (which requires you to then restart at the beginning of that chapter). 22 chapters in all, and I was totally hooked. I cannot recommend it enough, for those who enjoy the worlds of Dungeons & Dragons! I would happily give it a 10/10.
MERAVIGLIOSO!
Very nice game.
I really like fantasy/sword and sorcery books, and the game is an interactive book. The story is very good and the characters are very charismatic. I can't wait to finish the game.
These games are awesome, a must have for anyone who enjoys old school choose your adventure style books.
