I got a game ending bug during the very last part of the game. Based on discussion posts, many players have reported this bug so it has been known about and left unfixed for a long time. I would not waste my time on another run knowing this could easily happen again, and I don't think anyone should risk buying this game until they fix this bug. Unfortunately, it was a satisfying game to play and i enjoyed it up until this. It feels harsh to say but I truly do feel like this game was a waste of my time.
Honestly, I am so disappointed. The art is cute, the music is great, the gameplay is very chill (albeit a bit repetitive after a while), and the story is quaint. I can even look past the constant running back and forth across the map with no real "mini-map" guide, and having to navigate every location through pure memory. However, there are too many bugs/glitches, and I cannot in good conscience recommend the game. You easily get stuck on rocks, sometimes the select button just... doesn't work/register forcing you to reload the game, and there is a random bug where you are required to pick up a "box" to build something which just phases through your character, falling to the ground. There is no way to pick it up, and if you save/reload the game, the box just disappears and you aren't able to request that construction project again, leaving you unable to continue the main quest-line... After reading reviews and discussion posts, it seems like very few, if any, of the reported bugs have been fixed. Sounds like the devs have just moved on from this game and it's now abandoned, which is really a shame.
I recently dove into Distant Bloom, and I have to say, I really enjoyed my time with it. The world is absolutely stunning, and I found myself getting lost in the exploration and collecting elements for hours on end. I was all set to recommend it to my because it really felt like a gem—until I hit a frustrating bug near the end that made the game completely unplayable for me. There’s a save file available on the developers' Discord if you run into this issue, which is a nice gesture. However, for someone like me who loves to collect and explore every little detail, losing my progress was pretty soul-crushing. On top of that, I noticed a few other bugs, like not being able to plant seeds and some areas just disappearing. Luckily, those were manageable, but that major glitch really put a damper on my overall experience. I genuinely hope the developers fix that game-breaking bug soon because I would love to recommend Distant Bloom wholeheartedly. Until then, I'd say proceed with caution! (My husband jokingly said the only reason I finished everything in this game was sheer stubbornness; the final hours of gameplay were not fun, and I just wanted it to be over since I had to redo so much while fighting several smaller bugs)
Honestly, I really wanted to love this game. The characters are endearing and the different environments are fun to explore. However the constant glitching, unhelpful map, lack of accurate tracking of achievements as well as finishing the story before completing any milestones, all really take away from the charm of the overall game. I finished the main story very early in my gameplay and got all achievements except collecting all the crystalites - which are impossible to find as there is no definitive number you need to collect and no clues as to where they may exist. I put in a lot of extra hours hoping to give Distant Bloom redemption for its faults but over a year later from my purchase, I am disappointed. None of the shared critiques from other players have been applied to improve the game. So I will be shelving it indefinitely, as I have exhausted every area in the search for the crystalites. I truly hope the developers take the time to overhaul the constant bugs and try to streamline the UI experience better for those who want to play Distant Bloom in the future. It had so much potential but fell very short of my expectations of a cozy game.
If you enjoy backtracking through a maze without a map, this is the game for you. Short. Unfinished.
I think this game is super cute, but it has MANY bugs, where in some cases the game does not progress and you get eternally stuck and unable to progress. I went online and saw that someone else had the exact same problem in september 2025 and it is still not fixed in july 2025. I do not recommend buying this until this (and various other bugs) have been fixed
Loved the idea, but the amount of bugs and game freezing makes it super annoying.
The game has UI, placement, auto features that you can't disable once enabling and the devs disappeared after getting a list of complaints in September of 2024. Disappointing.
