Detective Solitaire Inspector Magic is a basic mobile-app like solitaire puzzle game. Solve various puzzle levels using Klondike style card moving and matching. It's been done a million times before, for free, and free on mobile app stores too... yet this one has a hefty price tag on it. Who knew you can just charge $5 for mobile trash? I guess Creobit does. The developer, Creobit/8Floor, has copy + pasted this game an insane SEVENTY TWO TIMES onto Steam with minor reskins... why cash in on one asset if you can cash in on multiple copies of the same game? Asset flipping begins at home! Here's a list of Creobit's copy + pastes of this asset: [list] [*] Dangerous Solitaire. Zombie Fever [*] Dark Solitaire. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio (with some lazy "wings" to fill the pillar). It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes Detective Solitaire Inspector Magic might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 7 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Detective Solitaire Inspector Magic has the farcical price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
I really like it quite well. You actually have to think out the cards that you want to remove for you play. Which cards removed will take a lot off the board, and which ones removed will let you get to the cards needed to win the hand.
Detective Solitaire Inspector Magic, developed by Somer Games and published by 8floor, is a casual card puzzle game that combines traditional solitaire mechanics with a light detective theme. It presents itself as a blend of mystery and strategy, but in practice it leans far more toward delivering a relaxed, methodical card experience than a narrative-driven investigation. The result is a game that is easy to pick up and consistently structured, though it rarely moves beyond the expectations set by its genre. The premise follows Inspector Magic as he investigates a series of unusual events tied to a larger case. This storyline serves mainly as a backdrop, connecting levels and providing a sense of progression as players move from one location to another. While the idea of solving a mystery adds some thematic charm, it remains largely superficial. Dialogue and plot developments are minimal, and the story does little to influence gameplay. Instead, it functions as a framing device, giving context to the steady sequence of card-based challenges. Gameplay is built around a familiar solitaire-style system where players remove cards from the board by selecting those that are one value higher or lower than the current card. This simple rule set makes the game immediately accessible, allowing players to understand the mechanics within moments. As the game progresses, the layouts become more complex, introducing larger boards and more layered arrangements that require careful planning. The challenge comes from managing available moves efficiently, as running out of options forces a reset or the use of limited resources. To add variety, the game introduces small gameplay modifiers such as special cards, wildcards, and bonuses that can help extend a run or clear difficult sections. These elements provide a slight strategic layer, encouraging players to think ahead and use their resources wisely. However, they do not fundamentally change the gameplay, which remains consistent from beginning to end. The experience is less about mastering new mechanics and more about refining the same core process across increasingly intricate layouts. The pacing is steady and well-suited for casual play. Individual levels are short, making it easy to complete a few rounds in a single sitting without feeling overwhelmed. This structure supports a relaxed experience, where players can progress at their own pace without significant pressure. Over time, however, the repetition becomes more noticeable, as the game relies heavily on the same actions and patterns. While the increasing complexity of layouts provides some variation, the overall loop remains predictable. Visually, the game uses a bright and clean presentation that emphasizes clarity. The card layouts are easy to read, and the interface is straightforward, allowing players to focus on the task without distraction. Backgrounds and environments change between levels, adding some visual variety, but they do not play an active role in gameplay. The audio design is similarly understated, with simple music and sound effects that support the experience without becoming a focal point. One of the game’s strongest qualities is its accessibility. The mechanics are intuitive, the controls are simple, and the difficulty curve is gradual, making it suitable for a wide range of players. It does not demand quick reflexes or deep strategic thinking, instead offering a calm and methodical experience. This makes it particularly appealing for players looking for a low-pressure game to unwind with. At the same time, this simplicity limits its depth. The detective theme remains largely decorative, and the gameplay does not evolve significantly as players progress. While there is a large number of levels to complete, the lack of meaningful variation can make extended sessions feel repetitive. Players seeking a more dynamic or narrative-driven experience may find it lacking in both areas. Ultimately, Detective Solitaire Inspector Magic succeeds in delivering a consistent and approachable card game that stays true to its casual roots. It does not attempt to innovate or push boundaries, but it provides a reliable and easygoing gameplay loop that can be enjoyed in short sessions. Its strength lies in its clarity and accessibility, even if its limited scope prevents it from leaving a stronger impression. In the end, it stands as a straightforward and relaxing solitaire experience that will appeal most to players who enjoy traditional card mechanics with a light thematic touch. While it may not offer much beyond its core concept, it executes that concept effectively within its intended scope. Rating: 6/10
Despite its name there is no real story, no cutscenes between sections, no tweet-sized texts and even there's no ending. The game look rather low-res, it feels fuzzy even on 1600x1200, not even talking about 3840x2160. Part of that is due to the chosen art-style and colour palette. But as a solitaire — it is an enjoyable enough solitaire. You match cards in value up or down with a full circle. It doesn't make you feel smart like when you successfully solve a FreeCell game, but there are clear goals, RNG mitigation and self-imposed goals. The game doesn't ask of you to clear the whole field, only to get several special cards. And even those are slightly more numerous than it is required to finish a set of levels. And yes, there are levels with different dependencies and end-result patterns. From time to time you get coins and you can spend them on re-shuffles, placement-cancel or on a joker that acts as a universal card. So basically just buy some jokers. I tried to avoid the power-ups as much as possible, only using the jokers if i had only one key card remaining and accessible, or in especially annoying RNG levels. The game offers a choice of faces and backs, and there are internal achievements, not tied to Steam.
This is a nice solitaire game that requires thinking a bit differently than normally. Your main goal is to remove the special cards, not to clear the table. It can be quite hard to get the perfect score in some cases, but you can miss a couple special cards and still unlock the next level. There are several designs to choose from for the cards (3 fronts, 9 backs). Really the only thing that bothered me occasionally was that I had a bunch of cards on the table I could have removed and then hit the last special card and that was it. It feels a bit abrupt before you get used to it.
This is a very fun solitaire game to play. I enjoy playing it.
Very nice causal game not too hard nor too easy.
Challenging solitaire with a twist.
Good Solitaire game about the Mystery of a Magical Creature. Play it. Buen juego de Solitario acerca del Misterio de una Criatura Magica. Recomendado.
