Detective Boiled-Hard / Case File - Death of the Space Dino Hunter

I knew it wasn't gonna be much, but i didn't think it wasn't this much. The other reviews seems very overrated (or maybe done by friends even) this is an indie point and click adventure, which looks like it been all made by 1 person, which usually you see by things lacking as one person usually can't be good in all fields (story, graphics, sounds etc). The game itself is rather okay (and would give a thumbs up), but aside from being really short (30-60 minutes) it's also very easy, you only use your inventory a handful of times, and most of the game (only 5 locations) consists of going back and forth talking to people asking the right topic. I totally understand this dev puts his heart into it, but 5,69 is just a bit high, i even felt 3,98 on sale (30%) was, i feel 1,00-1,99 euro is more fair. I sincerely hope his next game is gonna be longer and harder in puzzles. These things both combined makes me give this a thumbs down, only recommended to get this on a bigger sale. 5/10

I really enjoyed Trials and Traces: The Tomb of Thomas Tew, an earlier game by this developer, Because Because. It’s not available on Steam as of the writing of this review, but it is available over on itch.io. It was a nice little gem within a collection of other independent adventure games, with turned out to be a great purchase, because it put games like Death Has a Million Stomping Boots and Beard in the Mirror on my radar. When Because Because released Detective Boiled-Hard, I jumped on it right away. This game is a bit on the shorter side, clocking in at about 90 minutes of play – but it’s a solid and enjoyable (and fully voice-acted!) 90 minutes. Detective Boiled-Hard never once pretends to be a serious game of any sort. It fully embraces bad jokes, self-referential humor, so-bad-they’re-amazing celebrity impersonations, and insane situations. You play as Boiled-Hard, a detective who is played straight. He certainly takes himself seriously. Following a short opening scene which is a direct homage to Die Hard, he is sent to a movie set where a director who suspiciously resembles Jeff Goldblum is making a film with a man who could be Steven Seagal’s twin, and another man who has a certain Arnold Schwarzeneggeresque quality to him. Arnie dies in an unfortunate and tragic robotic dinosaur accident, and Boiled-Hard sets about unraveling the mystery of his demise. A secondary mystery is why there’s a giant pile of crap in Steven Seagull’s dressing room. Also, Back to the Future’s Doc Brown is a mechanic in this game and you can interrogate him, which means this title is basically the long awaited followup to Toonstruck. There’s not many locations to explore in this game, but there is a high joke density that stays fresh and feels light. If you’ve had a particularly hard day at work, grab a beer, kick back with this game, and forget your troubles for an hour or two. I’d love to see a sequel.

Enjoyable

If you're looking for a serious and gritty detective story, then you're in the wrong place. If you want a silly and funny detective story with lots of game and film references, then this is the one for you. Investigate the death of Arnold Swordswinger. Chat with a disembodied head camera operator. Have detailed conversations with a variety of characters (I loved the fact that all characters have responses for every option, even when they had no information to help the case). Discover the wonders of New Cork City. An impressive piece of work for a one-man operation.

A surprisingly fun game, with quite some good jokes. Even if all voice audio is done by one guy, it fits the setting. On the downside, it is rather easy and short.

A nice short , goofy ,fun and fully voiced point and click advnture game ,bought it pretty much for the Alan rickman part ,too funny.i feel called out by the ending, but it funny because its true.

This game, much like The Tomb of Thomas Tew, has an allure and charm that's hard to pinpoint. Everything Because Because Games creates is out of passion and a love for the point-and-click genre, and the end result is very entertaining if you have a buddy to play with. It is short, and rather juvenile in some places, but going into it expecting a wacky and unconventional game makes it extremely fun. You don't know what to expect, and it's so bonkers you really will wish it kept going just to see what happens next. Some people would pay more to go see a boring movie in a quiet theater with a bunch of strangers, I'd rather spend it with my friends playing ridiculous games like this and having a couple good laughs together.

A fun short game. Great jokes and film references, recommended for fans of the Captain Disaster series.
