absolutely loved this game. the amount of work that went into it is so evident. the puzzles are the right amount of difficult and get so much more involved than i anticipated even after playing the demo. if you enjoy desktop simulators, adventure games, puzzles, early internet nostalgia, and being emotionally assaulted i HIGHLY recommend desktop explorer. i'll be thinking about this game for a long time

An excellent puzzle game - if you enjoy Daniel Mullins Games, this will be right up your alley. The puzzle design for the most part is well-telegraphed but there are a couple that require a non-obvious leap of intuition (looking at you minesweeper); It's fairly linear which is both good (there's an active culling of the solution space, so only so many things to try) and bad (much of the playtime is just getting stuck on the one or two puzzles). Visual and sound design is great, though I will say the writing and horror elements didn't really land for me; it is a game that is trying to do a lot in a ludo-narrative sense, and some of it is clever, but it fails to establish who the player character is early and vividly enough that it's hard to care about any of the character stakes (and less so some of the later introduced characters). This weakens the intended emotional impact at the end of the game, which is otherwise a perfectly reasonable resolution to the plot/gameplay arc. The point of solving the puzzles becomes just solving the puzzles (which are fun) because it's kind of hard to buy why you (or the protagonist even, she sort of puts a lampshade on this) plays along other than idle curiosity? Regardless, folks should play this so this team of folks can continue to hone their craft, I'd be interested in checking out their next project!
