Derrick the Deathfin

It's just not that fun of a game. The controls are awful and floaty and you constantly get stuck on the environment and other fish so movement kind of becomes a huge nuisance. The aesthetics are very well done though, and the different fishes and environments look really cool for a short while at least and has several small nods to classsic games on Sega consoles like Ecco the Dolphin (the controls are actually just as bad as well). I would recommend this to maybe the younger audience to some degree. It's a deeply flawed, colorful and short little game that may appeal to kids.

Goes from speed runs, to easter eggs, to puzzles. Limited FOV around protagonist means blind navigation. Some good elements but level design is flawed, cameras are too zoomed in and claustophobic, controls are finnicky and frustrating, level variety adds slow and boring fillers, limited options for detail and resolution. All in all not a compelling experience in the genre, and the genre is very saturated. Too bad Nice aesthetics and Xbox360 support goes a long way. Audio work was alright. Levels are varied in style, most are speedrun, others have you puzzle your way out by moving objects around and activating machinery, or send you on an easter egg hunt. The speedrun levels are usually brute forced through trial and error and feel tedious, the puzzle levels are slow and frustrating due to control and camera issues. The collection levels are just filler... I agree with other reviews that an ecco-style action platformer would had been a much superior experience
