Demonpact: Clarice

A game that is half ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, half serious, where when you think it ends, thinking "that's it?" there's more. The game has a LOT of things that it hides, but instead of overwhelming you with it, it hides it using codes that you unlock as you play the game, forcing you into multiple playthroughs, but changing just enough that you want to see what changes. Hard mode in particular changes the game's difficulty from 'braindead' to 'I actually have to spend a few minutes thinking about which party member to take for this specific fight now'. The gameplay is decently fun, but I think what really carries the game is its art and characters. You can get a general feel for everyone's personality in a few lines when you first recruit them, but learn more and more about them as you go through different events. The game's comedy isn't for everyone, but I think it manages to capture the 'dnd party ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about but still being invested in the campaign' pretty well. if I had to define a particular theme for this game's story, it would be fulfillment and perhaps grief. The idea that we obssess over reaching some kind of etheral goal that will make us happy, only to realize we have to move on to something else when it's over. How we obssess over specific parts of our lives thinking it defines us, which is something you see from nearly every demon and really every character you meet. Now, I'm sure some are going to tell me 'it's not that deep', and, having taken THAT drug item that makes you stronger (you know the one), I'd like to think that yes, despite all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and edge inducing dialogue, there is still a lot of intent behind how everything was written, even if it's not always cohesive. Anyway, it's worth trying, if only for the gameplay and art, but if you find the game too easy, I heavily suggest finding a certain code in the [spoiler]sewers[/spoiler], in my opinion, that's where the game really starts and becomes interesting.

Great game but dev needs to change a line so overlay and screenshotting works. Not bad at all for a free rpg maker game. Definitely makes it's own ideas with the way progression works. save chan

I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was, but it was a very strange and fun game. Love the artstyle and the humor.
