Deer Man

went into this not expecting much and honestly it was a pretty decent short experience. that being said i can understand why some people do not like this game. it can be finished in one sitting and has a very simple message, however, one thing that makes this game stand out for me and made me enjoy it was definitely the atmosphere. i really like the all white backgrounds of the game contrasted with the black of the deer, definitely gave it a dreamscape vibe and i really like that type of look. overall this is not bad for a one dollar game. although i guess it could have been a bit longer, maybe added some puzzle sections as well as way points for the players to follow as it is quite easy to get lost in this game sometimes.

This is just a poorly written short story coded into a very basic video game. It's only $1, so I can't bash it that much, but the story just sucks. It just doesn't make any sense. Major plot points are just straight up ignored. I won't spoil anything, but this guy has a family and all we hear of them is "he didn't want them to go hungry that night", so I guess he just abandoned them? That's just one thing I have an issue with. I'm going to go into more depth here [spoiler] so the "Deerman" was hunting and didn't want his wife and kid to go hungry for the night. He shoots a deer and sees a fawn crying over its corpse. This causes him to live in the woods with a deer head as a mask and run at hunters hoping to be shot...this is to teach them a lesson about hunting. Nothing about his family is ever explained. I guess he just left and said, "Well, I gotta go die to teach some stranger a lesson. Bye now!" And then our protagonist is so inspired by this that he becomes "the Deerman". So this guy is just going to die like the last deerman then? There are better ways to save deer's lives than having lead put into your body by one singular hunter. It's a pointless story that really isn't that good. There really isn't any reason to play this.

This one's a bit weird. It's a standard walking sim in most ways. The story is what's a bit weird, though not in any fantastical, horrific, or surreal way. No, I think it's perhaps the motivation of the characters that makes it weird. And it's not necessarily a bad weird. More an interesting weird. And honestly, I was kind of expecting more of a horror story, which it wasn't at all. Not sure I agree with the statement "if you love animals, this is for you!" Let's be honest: There's a difference between having a strong love for animals, and probably being in dire need of professional psychiatric treatment - I highly doubt most people will identify with the choices of the characters in this game. Graphics and visual style are nice. Audio and music is good for the most part, though the voice acting leaves a little to be desired, and was obviously not professionally recorded. (But it's decent enough.) Gameplay mechanics works fine, though I think the choice of using the X button as the default action button instead of LMB is strange and impractical. That all said, it's definitely worth a playthrough. 45 minutes for 100%.
