The walking simulator that started all walking simulators. I enjoyed the setting and the walking itself, to my eyes the game still looks quite nice. I just wasn't very impressed with the total of the narrative or its twist/hook with the
randomness
.
Yeah I own the original Dear Esther... so what
Dear Esther, more like Dear "shove it up yer butt"

for me, that was the beginning of all walk sims. the real game changer the mood of the island is my comfort zone. the ending is always heartbreaking
Потрясающая история которая берет за душу, до мурашек. Всем рекомендую, лучше вечером в тишине играть, дабы погрузится в атмосферу.
some reddit screenshot walking game
Overall Score

★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆

Playability

★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

Gameplay

★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Audio

★★★★★★★★☆☆

Story

★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆

Visual

★★★★★★★☆☆☆
Walking sims can be done well, and while this is considered to be the first one, it doesn't change the fact that it is a boring slog with only enjoyable parts being some pretty, screenshot worthy views and beautiful ost by Jessica Curry. I rate this a bit higher just because for the time the game was very beautiful, which makes me wonder why nothing was done for the remaster If you do happen to to buy the remaster, atleast you get access to the dev commentary, which is much more interesting than the games story.
i felt feelings 10/10
This "game" is up there in my favourite pieces of media of all time. It's one of "the" ones I always have to go and show people. The "walking sim" that started the genre, it incorporates procedural generation in a way that makes each 45-minute playthru a mosaic of metaphors and contradictions, poetry and symbolism, pieces of a mysterious whole that can leave each player with their own theories to ponder after. The sheer amount of hidden details is astounding. Some things are hidden behind actions you might never take, reflections you might never notice, or even in your peripheral vision... The music is hauntingly beautiful, as is the VA work that still gives me tears and goosebumps after dozens of runs. An emotional masterpiece and a unique triumph in game design.
It's sad, but that's okay.
