Unfortunately, the game simply isn't scary. I'm not a seasoned horror fan, and I'm actually quite frightened. But while playing this, I felt absolutely nothing. The game can't maintain its atmosphere and just constantly bombards you with "scary" sounds. No matter how much the author praised the artificial intelligence of his creation, it's no different from hundreds and thousands of other monsters found in similar "crafts" on Steam. I kept silent and shouted, but he simply didn't care. The leveling system feels completely useless, and the puzzles are either too easy or too illogical. I watched this project develop on YouTube, hoping that something truly interesting would emerge. I'd be lying if I said it didn't seem promising. But the monster isn't scary or clever, the atmosphere isn't frightening, and the missions—they're nothing to write home about. To be completely honest, I liked this monster and the project itself much more in terms of code lines than in terms of gameplay. The locations were generally well-designed (textures, presence of obstacles, and TDs), albeit monotonous. I didn't feel any tension. I can't recommend this game to anyone, and even though I understand it was essentially developed by one person, I can't say I liked it. P.S. Cracking the eggs was fun. HEEELLLL YEAAAHHHHH
Ngl, I feel kinda scammed. The game promises a monster with an incredibly advanced monster AI, but thus far I really haven't seen the monster act that different from thousands of other monsters seen in thousands of other horror games. Even it hearing your mic is far from original at this point. Once you understand how it works it's not really that menacing either: as long you crawl, stay silent and keep your flashlight off, it almost will never find you. The puzzles are just trash. The game doesn't help you understand how the planet puzzles work in any way whatsoever. I completed the first one by literally pressing randomly, and then got stuck on the second one. The atmosphere doesn't justify this excuse of a game, especially with the promises it made.
I was pretty hyped for this game, since I've loved Seth's other games: like Mother Hub and Habilis. However, I can't recommend someone buy this game at full price. It's hard to say that since i support a bunch of indie games, but given the length, story, and overall gameplay it isn't worth the price. There wasn't much added in terms of the overarching setting and the game was really short. even shorter once you figure out the sequences in order to get the speedrun achievement (and i got all them achievements). I'm still looking forward to Face Interrogation, but i think Dead Exhale shouldve had more time to cook. after a couple playthroughs I didnt even bother with upgrades and also found out you can activate switches through walls and basically sprint through the whole game even on Hell mode. i also played through with both mic on and mic off and i didn't notice any difference i DID like that the Ai didn't just chase you around, but maybe went into stealth or rounded the player, and having followed the development on youtube i felt that the dev lived up to his promise! Exploration was nice as well; there was enough to explore and find the chests and stuff without it feeling tedious. I feel like there shouldve been some kind of intro-sequence (or even just some explanation of why Thea is there in the first place and definitely more world-building lore) i hope the dev continues building upon his universe as well as his game-dev skills because i want to see more of his work this game is one of those i wish Steam had a 'maybe' or 'depends' recommendation because i dont hate the game, i actually like it and want to see more
I was given the opportunity to try this game, and I was greatly disappointed. The artwork and design is good. But that's about it. Once you start the game, the UI is basically not very good. There's no actual guide or tutorial to make things clear on what you're supposed to do. And when that information does come up, it's very belated. Which isn't useful. I didn't find the game particularly scary so much as frustrating because you're told to do certain things in the game, and not really told how to do them. Yes, it's understandable that it's a puzzle to be figured out. But even other puzzle games give some sort of guidance on what you need to do. This game just kind of throws you in and expects you to figure it out from the start. It doesn't explain the functions particularly well either. I do think the game has potential, but there is a lot that would need to be fixed in order for it to be a decent game. Sadly I also have to agree with another comment that the studio made it seem like it was a good game, but it's currently not. I wanted to like the game, but it's just not there.
You have better things to do with your money. A.I isn't smart, nothing makes sense. Puzzles are broken. Don't buy it. Unless your terrible with money.
Firstly, I don't know why all these other reviewers are downvoting this game, I enjoyed it alot and I'm not one for horror games but figured I give this one a try for my Halloween stream. However, it doesn't really have a good tutorial on what to do so you really just have to figure it out, but it's also not that difficult if you have a brain.. Secondly, those saying they get stuck on the puzzle aspects, probably suck at puzzle games because once you figure out the first one, its pretty self explanatory on what you have to do for the other puzzles. I was constantly tense (mainly because I don't do well with horror games) but once I figured out the game, and got caught a couple times, it was a little easier navigating around. I LOVED the design of everything, especially the holo planets around the main area! All in all, I was satisfied enough after completing the first playthrough, I didn't feel compelled to do another run after, so not much replayability for me. Even though it was made by 1 person and it was their first game, I feel like it was actually pretty good! I would 100% recommend this to someone else that's not very good with horror games as like an ease into the genre game IF there was a better intro tutorial, but other than that, nicely done! I'll edit in my video below after I finish editing it and get it uploaded on YT. Edit 1: Video now live here https://youtu.be/X9MjrRB6Chs
Dev kindly gave me a key but unfortunately this game wasn't for me. It's simply not scary, it's frustrating at best, I lost count of how many times I got into a vent just to be killed by the bug like enemies that I couldn't avoid plus once you max out stealth the main monster will rarely ever bother you. The puzzles aren't fun and for the first few minutes you'll scratch your head as to what you should even do. Game looks and plays simply like an asset flip and like a poor slender clone. Me andy friend were bored out of our minds on stream.
I was kind of looking forward to this one, but ultimately, I cannot recommend playing this. Not even for the $3 it costs to buy. I might revisit this at another time and give it another chance, but for now this is not worth. The monster's model looks a bit asset-store-y, death animation doesn't look all that good, and the switching dimensions or whatever it was called also look jank when switching. I just couldn't get into playing the game, nor was it scary. Environment feels too empty. Watch the trailer to experience about all the game has to offer.
cool concept, but the inexperiance of the dev is very visible. but as a first game with such an ambitious idea its promising cant wait to see what they do next
