Total Arcade Blastin' Fun.
I'm sad to say that this game is not very good as a shmup. The hitbox is far too large and the fuel mechanic is fine until the game refuses to refill it even though it goes down on its own. I feel like the game would benefit from maybe the cars being a little faster, the hitbox not being the size of the planet, and the fuel system either being reworked or adding a lives system so that good scoring can reward extends. It's not satisfying when racking up a combo for three stages means nothing after getting random strays hit into death. In its current state this game isn't worth picking up.
I really wanted to like this but it's just a bit too janky to be fun. I hate the way the enemy vehicles knock you around (unavoidable in a car shmup I suppose) but that maybe the reason why there aren't more ground-based shmups about? You only get one car to choose from at the start with a few more unlockable after jumping through whatever hoops it is that's needed to unlock them. I couldn't be bothered to get that far into it. Looks ace though, and the setting is really cool, it's just a shame it's not as much fun as it looks. I'd give it a 6/10, it's not terrible and you might like it but it's not my thing.
Rare car based shmup that still manages to make shooting and moving feel great. Pays homage to old school games like Space Invaders or Galaga in the stages while still having challenging and interesting boss fights as well as an engaging scoring system. The music and art are top notch as well. Overall solid game.
fun challenging and addicting
There are so many (great) bullet hell shmups on Steam, so it's nice to play something with a more old school feel. In Dead End City, your hitbox is big and your attack is narrow and not that powerful. You have to aim your shots somewhat instead of focusing purely on dodging. The levels are divided into 3 sections which each play a little differently. That provides some nice variety. I like that the bosses have difficult patterns but go down fast. They are lots of fun. The art and presentation of this game is cool and a nice change of pace from all the spaceship shmups out there. The game has tate mode (for vertical format monitors). It plays nice with my Sega Saturn USB pad too.
Great pixel art! Fun game play, iterates nicely between Galaga like waves, more standard shmup levels and boss fights (from what I've seen, only made it to stage 3 so far). The Mad Max-like setting gives the game a unique atmosphere. Really good pick up & play game!!
Un muy bonito simulador de Ruta 8 a la noche.-
Reminds me of many old games. With interesting risk/reward mechanics that keep you engaged with your secondary weapon use. And a constant tension to try and keep your combo meter up. took me about 17 hours to beat the game with one of the characters. and buy everything from the shop.
