Dark Old Sun: ~~~~~~~~~~ The Earth is in crisis! All energy resources are about to hit rock bottom and the fate of humanity is hanging by a thread! Meanwhile, a group of astronomers has identified a rather strange black star that emanates extremely bright light. This small star appears to have an abundance of energy which surely would save humanity from extinction if it could be harvested! They figured out how to extract this energy safely and bring it back to the citizens of Earth. This second chance at life has indeed been celebrated by everyone, including warlords, one of whom has managed to steal one of the biggest and most powerful spaceships of the human fleet, The VoidWalker! What is he up to now? Oh, Dark Old Sun! Dark Old Sun is a Shoot’Em up game where you take control of one of six vessels and your goal is to destroy the VoidWalker in order to win the game. The game has of several modes of play. The Story and Arcade modes are basically the same, with the small difference that you’ll be told a story (in writing) between stages. There are 6 stages in these modes and you’ll be able to choose your level of difficulty (normal, hard or extreme) as well as choosing how to upgrade your vessel within the stages (classic or advanced). If you choose the classic option, your spaceship will receive automatic upgrades, while the advanced option will give you the choice of what to upgrade or change on your vessels at any given time, as long as you have collected enough golden crystals to do so. In the survival mode, you have to eliminate wave after wave of enemies for as long as you can until your death! The difficulty level will increase after each wave - a tough mode, to be really honest with you, which is great! The third one is the challenge mode which has short games based on retro titles - they are great fun and hard. I’ll let you discover them! The gameplay in the Story and Arcade mode is pretty good. As I mentioned above, you have to go through 6 challenging stages. What I really like about this game is the fact that you can move your ship all around the screen as well as rotating it to shoot at enemy vessels wherever they happen to appear. Each time you destroy an enemy ship, a few golden crystals will appear at that location and will start falling down towards the bottom of your screen. Move your ship onto these crystals to collect them; pick up as many as possible, as you’ll need plenty of crystals to upgrade your ship. Your spaceship will be equipped with primary and secondary weapons. There are 5 to choose from for each category (primary and secondary) and you can change them at any given time without using your golden crystals. Drones are basically your super weapons and when activated, will help you go through difficult sections of the game, but only for a certain period of time. There are a total of four drones to choose from and you can swap from one to another without using any golden crystals. You also have 3 types of ability and can upgrade your armour and generator. You’ll start using your crystals when you want to upgrade specific attributes. For example, you might decide to upgrade from one to five projectiles from your primary or secondary weapons. You can also upgrade the drone’s lifetime, as well as your armour and generator. All of these options will cost a certain number of golden crystals, so keep shooting at the enemies! Within each of the stages, the game will automatically save three times. The first two will give you additional golden crystals and regenerate your life (shield/armour, in this case). The third save will occur just before the boss fights. Boy they are fun, but they can be frustrating, especially while playing the hard or extreme difficulty levels. In any case, each of the bosses has to be defeated three times in order to win the fight. And yes, their looks and style of fighting will vary within each of these three phases of combats. Graphically, the games looks good and runs very well. The soundtrack is great too, which is always a plus! The content is very good for the asking price and this game offers great re-playability! Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Good graphics + Several modes of play + Over 50 different types of enemy + Suitable for novice and hardcore players + Plenty of upgrades + Good price point + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No trading cards as yet Dark Old Sun is a great Shoot’Em up game at a great price! If you are an old sun like me, you might experience some flashbacks! 8/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! While arcades themselves are almost gone from the world of video games, the idea has stayed in our minds. As a fan of Atari games i am quite proud to bring this Brazilian retro-style title that in some ways surprised me a lot. A space flight game, evade asteroids, collect space dust, launch bombs, engage overdrive. You know the process. Wrapped around that gameplay, however, is a sci-fi narrative with many ships choices which are well designed. This is where things get interesting, and it’s also where you get hooked. Flying through space without crashing is fun but challenging. The best tactic of this game is to avoid getting hit instead of focusing on what you're shooting at. I played with Keyboard, so far the controls have quick response, i didn't test the joystick option, the game allows you to change them as you wish. The english version is not perfect, but it's far from being bad. Not really a big issue. While the setting is somewhat interesting, there isn't much of a real narrative or storyline. It's mostly just backdrop to establish the proper atmosphere. Ironically, the sounds were on par with the visuals. They offered an adequate arcade feel to the game and I could only complain about the songs resetting abruptly in the intro. I’m glad that we're spared of any annoying sounds since this particular genre never shines in the audio department. I recommend this title for those gamers looking to relive their memories of space invaders. For sure that's worth the cheap price. Strong Points + Steam Achievements. + Decent mechanics sections with an adequate challenge. + Pleasant sounds. Weak Points - No Steam Trading Cards yet. (it's coming soon though)

Has some solid mechanics and pack a strong punch with its 3 dificulty modes. Truly for all kinds of players, it has a lot of cool features like story mode, survival and challenge mode. Weapons are cool and fun to use, making the endgame all more rewarding if you plan your arsenal and upgrades right. For a solo developer game, it is really well made and nostalgicaly hits home. Worth it.
A Free twin-stick shoot-'em-up where you can change your loadout at any time and upgrade your equipment with crystals you collect when destroying enemies (you can reset all crystals spent once per stage). It has some little surprises gameplay-wise that keeps the slower pacing of the game interesting enough before the bosses. It also has a challenge-mode that offers some fun challenges and a "survivor" mode that feels a bit more like a traditional arcade game with a bit of randomness in the form of debuffs you can choose from that only last for the "wave" you are at. The pacing of the game can be quite slow in many parts of the stages, which is made worse if you have to replay through them many times on the higher difficulties (Normal difficulty can be way too easy). Playing with some combinations of upgrades and weapons can make the game exponentially harder especially when playing on classic mode, enemy visibility (especially some enemies that follow you) can be atrocious, the story has some interesting elements that sadly are barely used or explored enough in my opinion. And the art style is all over the place. Despite all of this, i would still say it's worth a shot considering it's free and if you can overlook most of the cons.

Originally a $5.99 game that went Free. Very slow gameplay where a lot of it could have just been cut to make it feel quicker. Difficulty in normal mode is practically non-existent which probably contributed to the dragged-out feel of my first playthrough. Higher difficulties get better, but mainly you just have less health. I was hoping it would focus more on the trance shooter elements rather than the slow/empty moments. These things made subsequent playthroughs continue to be boring. If you do play just do the arcade mode which skips the story elements. The story is very cringy and was one of the worst things I've witnessed in years. The artwork was everywhere and empty which didn't help. The only thing that was good was the twin-stick shooter element mixed into the Shoot 'Em Up genre which was a nice idea. Found only 2 of the ships worth playing though.
luta contra o Dark Old Sun
Before I played Dark Old Sun, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
