In Dark Ages, you’re the Prince of the Great Kingdom, who as a child watched the King – your father – die at the hands of Garth, a power mad warlord with uncanny magical abilities. Garth sent you away from the Great Kingdom to be raised as a peasant, and to never fulfill your destiny as the future King. But Garth made a terrible mistake.
A decent classic platformer for PC, one that put the Apogee on the top of the list regarding platformers on PC's, right next to Commender Keen series. It was also a precursor to the legendary and much improved Duke Nukem I that the same dev team created just a couple of months later. Dark Ages has three episodes and the entire thing can be completed from 2 to 5 hours. Even though you can't find it on Steam anymore, there is a free, complete version on archive . org, if you want to try this game.
Ahhh More Gold. I remember this game. I played it so much. I cant remember if i ever finished it, but sure it brings back memories. Recomended. Like Cosmo and Commander Keen. Gonna finish this game at some point in my life :)
Old school platformer. Everything works well enough so I recommend it. In my own opinion, the main selling point is nostalgia. It's fun for hopping into and playing for a few levels at a time for the simple, linear gameplay of the early days. If you're looking for something that's going to push your boundaries and blow your mind in 2016 look elsewhere!
Another game on Steam that is on here for Nostalgia. If you played this game when you were (much) younger and this will bring back memories, than by all means buy it. By today's standards this is unplayable.
Another great game from my childhood. Frustratingly difficult at times, but a solid little action game that's fun to play in spurts!
Dark Ages is one of those old school platformers with EGA/VGA graphics for the DOS and for what was at the time its OK. It gots OK music and looks nice….when you don't want to rip your eyes out because of some levels with very bright color like the waterfall one….thank god they are far few and between. Its a very basic platformers where you can jump and shot magic projectiles but it also can be also very challenging. The main objective at each level is either to find the transition area between the levels or find an item on the level to give to the old wise men in order to reveal a door to the next level. The difficulty comes from the fact that you don't have extra lives, so if you die then you start the level with the health points you had when you arrived with from the previous level. So if you start a new level with only 1 HP then don't save when asked upon death unless you know you can replenish your health on the current level. The game difficulty levels effect only the amount of coins you will need to replenish 1 HP, for example on easy you will need 10 coins. Its a very short game with 3 episodes and can be finished in about 2 hr unless you try to get a high-score. Try it out of curiosity if you want, its not a bad game.
(I just beat the game, all three episodes.) This game has significant issues: * There is an over reliance on instant death traps. While you have 10 health, and can recover health during the game, falling into pits and such will just kill you. * Instead of a life or continue system, it has a save/load system. Every time you die, the game asks you if you want to save your game, then if you want to load your game, which gets annoying if you are constantly dying to a difficult section. It's even worse if you die in the first level of an episode, as it just dumps you into the high-score screen. (Asking you to save after dying makes sense in this game, as it will save whatever your state was at the start of the level.) * I don't think the 10 health system works very well. You keep your current health from level to level, which, when combined with all the gotcha moments, means the smart way to play is to play through each level to find all those moments before loading your game and playing it for real. * There are a lot of gotcha moments. For example, enemies are placed so that they hurt you immediately after landing a jump unless you know where they are. There are also a few levels that hurt or kill you almost instantly after entering a level unless you do some fancy moves. * Even with all this, the game only takes 1.7 hours to beat, apparently.
I dont remember this game being as tough as it is. These new game have killed my true skills
Another neat Apogee game with only one life and no continues. Couldn't figure out what to do with the key on the first screen and never passed it. 3/10
